A- Nice darker copper color. Good head with clingy lacing.

S- Nutty, bready, with a sweet toasty caramel aroma. Simple hop aroma comes though.

T- If you are looking for a solid ESB that has good malt profile with a nice hop bitterness then this is it. This beer is definitely of the English style, with a more pronounced bitterness and toffee caramel maltyness.

M- Solid enjoyable body, with supporting carbination levels.

O- Great beer for the style. Too often do breweries try and do an ESB and end up making something that is just more malty then anything. This beer adds a nice hop bitterness that is simple and very enjoyable.

Rich, tangy, and sudsy mouthful of flavor. Handsome coppery amber in the snifter with a nice initial head. Quite spritzy in the mouth.

Quite a nice roasted flavor dominates the proceedings. Some dark and woody notes and a good deal of nuttiness. Caramel taste is mellow with a bitter hoppy edge. The hops are aromatic with hint of wintergreen and apple skins.

An excellent tasty brew that is pleasantly malty and hopped with a less bitter tang. From the 22 oz bottle bought at Bottleworks in Seattle.

Tried on tap at Beer Revolution here in Calgary. I hadn't heard of this particular beer or the brewery before. Waitress was trying to convince us not to be fooled by the name, as this beer is not that bitter. Heh. Agreed. Anyhow, this one arrived a nice red copper penny hue with minimal white foam. Aroma was indeed classic English ESB, with some caramel, honey, bramble/stone fruit, and earthy English hop notes all melding together ... Probably helps that the keg was recently tapped. Palate largely mirrored these elements, tastes just like an English bitter without too many frills or specific distinguishing characteristics. Brown sugar, a little grain husk, subtle strawberry and mixed citrus notes like so-called California style iced tea. No pine or green flavors noticeable. A little chew but fairly thin-bodied and crisp. Perhaps overly carbonated. Cleaving apart these English ale styles is perhaps a fruitless endeavor anyway (no pun intended), but my overall impression is that this is a straight-up bitter and would need more complexity and assertive hopping to reach bona-fide ESB level. Uni-dimensional but not unpleasant.

16oz pint at Beer Revolution. Brand new brewery available in Alberta, it would seem.

This beer appears a clear, medium bronzed amber hue, with one rather skinny finger of thin, wispy off-white head, which leaves a few sparse streaks of striated lace around the glass as things go south.

It smells of mildly bready caramel malt, apple and pear fruitiness, timid biscuity cracker notes, floral, lightly perfumed hops. The taste is more biscuity up front, the caramel morphing to bread on my tongue, the fruit getting quite muddled, and the musty floral, increasingly perfumed hops playing off in a separate corner.

The carbonation is fairly sedate, providing just enough effort to not be noticed, the body on the lee side of medium weight, and so-so smooth. It finishes off-dry, the neutered biscuit malt still large and in charge.

An ok ESB, unfortunately I'm getting nothing all that bitter, special, or extra out of this. Not to say I'm not enjoying this - it just doesn't exhibit the peppiness expected from best of breed.

Aroma is a little bit cereal grain with caramel malt and a little bit of woody hops. Good for ESB that it's got a little bit of many things but not overly anything.

Nice amber color. Very clear with a nice white head and a bunch of lacing. It has a little bit of rising carbonation. Looks just like a pint from a random London pub. Not fizzy, smallish creamy head, clear.

Lots of crystal malt and a little sweet but still with good hop bitterness. Right on the money English style. No citrus hops, no hop bomb. Malty and slightly on the sweet side and a yeast flavor that's a little like bread.

Nice creamy carbonation and medium body. Smooth drinking but not at all boring. Stronger than a session beer but you could get down 2-3 in a session without being out of control.

It is what it is. In a world dominated by big ass strong craft beer or hop monsters, it stands out by being average in a good way. It's a drinkable beer that isn't boring. Won't wreck your palate with food or make you want to stop after one. British ESB.
