Dark amber in the chalice with an encouraging spritziness. Rich and smooth. There is a candy flavor that is actually quite pleasant here. Modest smokey touch. Some bark and cedar with a dark caramel taste. Burnt sugar and a hoppy touch of bitterness for the aftertaste.

Sweet and tangy, clean and well made. Another totally drinkable brew from Bellevue. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Special Brews in Lynnwood.

Poured from 22oz bomber into a tulip.

Appearance: rich, dark amber hue with no haze and a finger of frothy tan foam atop. An attractive wee heavy, I'd say.

Smell: richly malty with a hint of fruitiness and some floral notes. A bit on the light side, but there's a nice, subtle complexity here.

Taste: sweet, rich malt, with some of those floral notes from the aroma. There's also a light toastiness which is nice. There is some biscuit here, too, which is not my favorite, but overall it's a relatively tasty Scotch ale.

Mouthfeel: pretty light-bodied for a wee heavy, but there's a decent carbonation and creaminess here. Not bad.

Overall: this is a decent Scotch ale. It doesn't quite measure up to the real McCoy, but few American attempts at the style do. Not a bad beer, though.

This is a decent Scotch Ale. It was very smooth and flavorful. The flavor was overwhelmingly caramel, but it also had a very nutty finish. I am not usually a huge fan of Scotch Ales, but I found that this was an unexpectedly pleasant beer. Bellevue Brewing definitely takes their beers very seriously, and their dedication and hard work definitely shows up in this beer!

Served in straight pint glass. Poured a clean, clear reddish amber color, a couple of tones lighter than I expect in the style, with less than 1/4 inch of off-white head that had low retention and lacing.

The aroma was the expected malt bomb, and there was just a slight bit of peat, not as much as some examples. On the tongue, the showed up a bit stronger, not overpoweringly so, but a noticeable uptick. The rest of the flavor was sweet malts.

The body was a bit too thin for the style, but was smooth and easy to across the palate. Drinkability was good, but I'm not really eager for a second one. Overall, a nice enough beer. Perhaps a good one to introduce someone to the style without overwhelming them. Worth a shot if you see it.
