Got this at the Duvel guy down the road.

From a bottle into a snifter
EBC: 65
EBU: 60

APPEARANCE: Pours a two finger, looser, fizzy, foamy, off-white head with decent retention. Head looks like Swiss cheese. Clear rust in color with higher levels of carbonation. Foamy head recedes to a full foam cap with bubbles. A slight foamy wisp remains leaving touches of lacing down the glass. Lousy, fizzy, Swiss-cheese head.

SMELL: Grainy, bready malts, some spicy cloves, pepper, light caramel and some floral hop notes. Dried fruits as well. Bold enough.

TASTE: Caramel sweetness, dark bread and floral hops up front. Bolder and lingering finish of grainy bread, spicy clove and pepper with floral hops and a touch of alcohol. Sweet grainy malt lingers with some hop bitterness as balance. Some nice hop flavor, but a bit too grainy for my tastes.

PALATE: Medium body and medium levels of carbonation. Creamy enough, goes down okay with a bit of a burn and finishes semi-dry on the palate. A bit of spicy alcohol lingers with a burn.

OVERALL: This is okay. Quite sweet and a good dose of spicy flavor here. Expected more hop character given that the label said "hop hop hop," but that wasn't the case. Lousy head and a bit harsh as well. The spicy flavor screamed heart burn on this one, so I didn't bother to finish it. I wonder what kind of yeast is involved here. A good beer but nothing special. (1,406 characters)

330ml bottle, poured into Kasteel chalice.

A: Fairly pale shade of amber, initial two finger thickhead, faded gradually while leaving a decent amount of lacing, fairly hazy.

S: Initially thearoma wasn’t overly pronounced, some citrus fruits put me in mind of a commercial American Pale Ale, however the grapefruit got more and more prominent.

T: Wheat, lime, citrus, grapefruit and gummibears, good amount of bitterness but didn’t over do things.

M: Crisp, decent amount of carbonation, medium body.

O: Kept everything balanced, was the first beer for a while that really
made me sit up and take notice. (617 characters)
