A well balanced, malt forward nutty brown ale! Munich, biscuit, chocolate and caramel malts are used to create a warm intricacy. The rich malt profile finishes slightly dry with a smooth earthiness from Willamette hops.

On a crummy overcast and cold November day, Rogue River Brown hit the spot for making the transition... which most people call "The Happy Hour."
While I'm not Looking at a great specimen of the style, it is average (could retain more foam/lace.) Smells are considerably better and mostly malt, though not overly sweet. Tastes come in about the same, though more balanced than I expected by some 30 IBU. While the mouth is malty, the finish is almost a bit sweet. But, I'm a malt-head and that don't bother me. Well-rounded, this is a delicious English Brown.
My first from Rockford, I went on their website and liked all the typical buttons of commitment to crafting and local sourcing and community. All good for a suburb of Grand Rapids. And they even got a GABF brewpub award in 2017. For all that, I give them some decent OA Hugs.

16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 8/30/2018. Pours hazy very dark ruby/brown color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, brown sugar, brown bread dough/crust, toasted biscuit, and nuttiness; with lighter notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toffee, raisin, plum, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready/light roasted malts and light earthy hop/fruity yeast notes; with solid strength. Taste of big caramel, brown sugar, brown bread dough/crust, toasted biscuit, and nuttiness; with lighter notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toffee, raisin, plum, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Very mild herbal/floral/grassy hop and roasted bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, brown bread dough/crust, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, chocolate, cocoa, coffee, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/light roasted malts and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with a solid malt/bitterness balance, and no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Slightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready, and slightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is fantastic. Zero warming alcohol for 6.5%. Overall this is a delicious English brown. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/light roasted malts and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the minimally bitter/drying finish. Very rich and well rounded malt complexity; mild fruity yeast and Willamette hop balance against sweetness. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.
