This is Brian Poe's Gastropub a couple of blocks down from City Hall Plaza on Cambridge Street. I've been there for lunch more than a few times. About 30 taps that rotate very frequently. I enjoy getting beers from Breweries I know but "new beers" for me. Nice L shaped bar with kitchen view, in front of the taps and wall for the whiskeys. The facade has two garage doors that open to the street in good weather, a nice feature. The "mayors corner" has a mural of past and present Mayors which is a nice touch since City Hall is nearby.

The food is outstanding and priced fairly. All fresh ingredients, imaginative recipes and many game dishes are available. This has to be the best "gastropub" I've visited in Boston. If you only go for the beers, you'll be happy. If you eat, you'll be coming back again.

The place was mostly wood interior but not too dark and had a really energetic vibe. Lots of folks eating and socializing but not so loud that you could not carry on a conversation. I felt the place had a really good energy and was definitely getting even more crowded when we were leaving.

The beers were poured into pint glasses with varying amounts of head (even for the same beer).

Service was friendly and quick but might have needed just a little more attention to detail on the pours.

Decent selection - a lot of breweries you would expect to see at any place that is marketed towards craft beer drinkers but a few more unusual selections.

Did not try the food on this visit but the different types of wild game certainly had some appeal.

Prices were definitely fair, at least for the beer - didn't really check out the food as we were just stopping in for a beer or two before heading out to dinner.

I checked out the Tip Tap Room last night (12/28/12) for the first time and I will definitely be returning. They opened in May or June this past year and I had heard it was quite a scene and difficult to get in due to being overcrowded when it first opened, so I waited for the hype to die down to try it out. Its easy enough to miss walking by as it doesnt have any real prominent signage. You just remember where the old Shangra la was located and this is now the Tip Tap Room.

Mostly hardwood design to the whole interior. Its nice and open and clean looking. I seem to remember it being painted orange at the entrance. The bar is off to the right when you walk in and it seats maybe 15 people- so not overly large and it has small hardwood tables throughout--dining room off to left and a pretty big standing area in the middle of the bar so it can accomodate plenty of people who are there just for drinks.

When they were about to open , there was a lot of press about them specializing in craft beers and various types of meat and game available in tip form as Brian Poe who owns this place ,seems to have some good PR/marketing people working for him. So I look at the beer menu and I am not terribly impressed but then I realize their rotating drafts include about 12 other brands that definitely make a beer geek happy. Brands like Avery, Stone, Bear Republic, Lagunitas, Houblon Chouffe, Oskar Blues, etc. I had a Sierra Nevada celebration ale with my meal and it was delicious as usual.

The food is very good and fairly straightforward. Just enough complexity is added to the dishes to make them memorable but nothing is going to overpower the original core ingredients. This is the kind of approach I appreciate. The service was friendly and attentive enough. The prices are more like 2.5" $$" rather than 2 but I didnt feel it quite hit the $$$ level. Beer prices are about normal for the area. Overall, an excellent addition to the neighborhood. I had many a good time at the divey Shangri la back in the day but its time had gone long ago. I'm looking forward to many return visits to the TTR.
