On tap Common Market, Southend.

Great hoppy, citrusy smell. Taste is of grapefruit peel, but unlike Stone Grapefruit Slam, there is an awesome balance with the hops where you can actually taste something other than pithiness. Very solid brew, as usual from Wicked Weed. Love their stuff.

Had on tap at Sticks and Stones last night.Came to the table in a stemmed glass a clear copper color with a tight half finger head, sharp grapefruit rind and a little grassiness in the nose with a tinge of sweet alcohol. The sharp grapefruit comes thru bigtime on the palate as well with underlying grass and lightly sweet caramel malts, the grapefruit flavors are large and in charge. Not bad but it gets a little bitter by the end of a 12 oz. pour,it packs a hoppy punch.

Served at the brewpub in Asheville.

Pour was amber with excellent clarity and a good head.

Lots of hop aroma and flavor, with just mild bitterness. Addition of grapefruit zest seems to affect the aroma but has minimal affect on the flavor.
Exceptional fruity/hoppy aroma.

The nose is a nice burst of citrus fruits like oranges, tangerines, nectarines, grapefruit and lemon. There is a touch of herbal darkness in the aroma.

The flavor lends heavily on hops but strikes a great balance with the malt. The citrus is noticeable at first with grapefruit and oranges, maybe a touch of tangerines. Through the middle this gets a bit mote dank with a musty, musky swampy herbal tone. It finishes with a touch of lemon and a ill received chive. All the while the caramel malt simply holds up the back and feel.

@ Ridgewood

Mostly clear deep, coppery orange color under a big, frothy off-white head. Chunky patches of lacing. Aroma comes across as hoppy with a decent grainy sweetness beneath...nice, but not a very "deep" smelling beer. Citrus zest, spicy hops, earthy pine, toast, and just a hint of perfumy grapefruit here and there. Flavor is bitter citrus and leafy hops. A fresh, but not in-your-face grapefruit juice finish. Crisp, medium bodied, with some texture. Nothing memorable, but a decent beer overall.

All around great take on the American IPA. Enjoyed 36hrs after kegging. Golden color with one finger head. Medium carbonation. Even split of citrus with a lighter fruit note up from then finishes with hint of pine on the back end. Finishes with bitterness all the way. Hides 7% scarily well.

Poured on-tap at the brewery and served in a shaker pint, the beer is a hazy, golden coloring, with a filmy, clingy, white head. Nose of resinous hops, pine pitch, and subtle caramel in the backbone. Flavors are resinous and grapefruit forward, with a caramel backbone, and a growing bitterness as you go. Smooth and dry in mouth, with a resinous and citrus aftertaste. Smooth, clean finish. Very nice, very balanced, very drinkable beer.

Thanks to wishuwerebeer for snaggin this 1-liter growler as soon as it became available on tap. Fresh as can be poured into a matching wicked weed snifter. It appears a clear copper color with a firm white cap resting atop.

The aroma on this is surreal. Incredibly juicy with tropical hops. Pineapple with a little fruity yeast edge to it before transitioning more to something like orange marmalde. Wow, just wow this smells intense.

The taste is fruity and rindy with pineapple and pith like oranges/grapefruit and tropics. A mild green yeastiness is felt but that is nitpicking to find something that isnt incredible about the hop flavoring here.

This is a medium bodied brew with a modest amount of carbonation. I was sad to see this growler empty, I could have drank this all day and been in lupulin euphoria.

This was a good beer. It was on the darker side in color, good head retention and a wonderful floral, spicy, and tropical fruit bouquet aroma. The taste was much the same. I truly enjoyed this beer, as I have most of this brewery's beers. Apparently the "sour" beers are all the rage with these guys, I need to give that one another chance. But for now the IPA's and APA's I have tried have been top notch. Happy that this brewery is in my neck of the woods so to speak.

Tulip at Ridgewood in Raleigh

A: A little darker than your standard IPA with sticky lacing. One-half inch white foam head on pour.

S: Musky fruit - ripe sweet citrus, grapefruit nose. Smells like candy.

T: Fruity hoppy mess with a mild malting backbone. I've seen the comparisons to Stochasticity and this is clearly better balanced than the Stone version. Lingering ripe grapefruit / rind finish.

M: Nothing to complain about here. Appropriate viscosity and and smoothness for a single IPA.

O: Not something I would seek out, but this seems to be a nice one-off sampling beer unless you are really a sucker for the grapefruit.
