Appearance: Pours a clear golden color, much like a Chardonnay except that it has a one inch head on it; decent persistence and some clumps of lace hang around
Smell: Vinous and cidery, with hints of leather, wheat and hay
Taste: Tart grape, lemon and apple tones, up front, with the underlying sweetness of the Muscadines building slightly through the middle; after the swallow, there is more tartness as well as some funk, with wheat bread and hay flavors adding to the finish
Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation
Overall: I am not a fan of Muscadine wine and I don't think it works particularly well in combination with the Brett and the strong ale; interesting concept but not something I would want to try again

500ml bottle pulled out of my cellar, poured into a teku
Wasn't quite sure what to expect from a "brett strong ale," so diving right in the beer pours a golden, almost honeyed color, reminds me immediately of cider. Maybe it's the monochromatic greens all over the label. And then the nose, the nose is very ripe apple cider too, with a healthy dose of mediocre white wine. Sort of like what a Finger Lakes white wine would be compared to a classic Mosel River Valley German Riesling. If the wine analogy is lost on you, just think "lesser." I get no brett funk on the nose, and barely a hint of it when drinking it either. Brett shouldn't fade. Anyway, it's fairly complex, which is nice, but still focuses on white wine grape skins, ripe apples, a touch of light bread, and maybe some barnyard. Solid, just not awesome. I wasn't a huge fan of the mouthfeel however, it's more bubbly and fizzy than tightly carbed as I would expect (and want) it to be. I will say this though, I was amazed to see that it's 9.6%, the ABV is nowhere to be found, so there's that. Solid brew, not my fave Wicked Weed by a long shot though. Would like to see it made again to see if they build upon a solid inaugural effort.

500ml bottle poured into an Idle Hands tulip.
L - Pours a pale, straw golden color with just a hint of orange. A finger of fluffy white head shows excellent staying power as an endless stream of bubbles rises through the glass.
S - Very fruity up front, lots of grapes as would be expected. Funky brett is right behind the fruit giving some wet hay and mild barnyard aromas. Some sugary sweetness lurks in the background. Light phenolics round things out.
T - Grapey, white winey in character. Plenty of earthy, yeasty funk, some apples, light phenols, grainy malt, a bit spicy.
F - Lightish medium body, frothy/foamy light/middle carbonation that fits well. A lot of winey and funky character throughout, ending in a spicy - almost cinnamon aspect on the exhale. Acidic, faintly tart but definitely not sour...again fairly white wine-like.
O - Another interesting beer from Wicked Weed...so far I have liked pretty much everything I have tried from them and this one is no different. I am a bit surprised how much I like this beer however. Definitely exceeded my expectations.

Just too much tannin astringency for me. Really did not enjoy this one.

375ml bottle. Served in a teku glass 2/22/2015.
A- Light clear pale yellow body. One finger white head with short retention time, no lacing. Looks like a chardonnay or similar white wine to me.
S- Oak, white grape must, wheat, lemon, mild leather, funk.
F- Pale malt sweetness, grape must, oak, mild funk, lemon zest. A bit of butter on the finish.
M- The diacetyl butter kind of kills it for me, but it's a reasonably carbonated beer that isn't difficult to drink. Medium bodied. Very surprising that this is a 9.6% strong ale.
O- Surprisingly (or unsurprisingly) it tastes a lot like a white wine. This would pair really well with cheese, and in this case the diacetyl helps a little bit with that pairing. Not my type of brett beer, but it's not terrible.

I thoroughly enjoyed this the 20 minutes it lasted.
