Got this one at Wicked Weed brewery with my girlfriend while celebrating our fifth anniversary. Pours golden amber with a thick white head. There's a dank hoppy citrus smell upfront followed by a bit of maltiness. It tastes a lot like it smells with hints of grapefruit and medium bitterness for such a hoppy beer. The hops taste very fresh. Manage has a full mouthful and a nice crisp finish. We were definitely lucky to get a taste of this as they only brew it once a year for Asheville beer week. This is one killer beer, hope we stumble across it again sometime.

Menage-a-Freak
Triple IPA by Wicked Weed Brewery in Asheville, NC

The Ménage a Freak has a translucent golden amber color and finishes with a moderate head and lacing. This beer is incredibly well balanced in both nose and mouth feel despite being 11.4%. The nose is citrusy and floral, reminiscent of grapefruit or pomelo. The mouthfeel is smooth, yet lively. The taste is dominated by bitter hops, but complimented well by citrus and slight caramel flavors. The finish is bitter and slightly piney, yet light and pleasent.

This once a year brew is surely worth the trek. A must try for the IPA lover.

Appearance: Arrives with the liquid a clear burnt orange/amber color with a modest head that leaves a few strands of lace

Smell: A wallop of grapefruit pith bitterness tingles the nostrils

Taste: The bitterness in this beer doesn't wait for the malt to set a backbone - it just comes at you aggressively; more bitter on the taste-buds than citrusy. though the pith adds some grapefruit elements; while the extreme bitterness battles with the citrus elements I was surprised at how enjoyable it was to experience the conflict

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate, but prickly, carbonation

Overall: With an extreme amount of bitterness and a high ABV this is a beer to reckon with particularly as it hides the ABV remarkably well
