Pours a hazy cloudy amber orange with loads of floating sediment and a creamy frothy white foam head that settles to a ringed cap with decent retention. Smells interesting right now and maybe not as good as when it was fresh I can imagine, not bad nevertheless, fresh herbs pop out first with basil, then some fruity spicy juniper berries, spruce, some cucumber, green melon notes, gin barrel, hint of lemony citrus, peppery spice, mild caramelized malt, and floral earthy herbal pine. Tastes a bit better I think with more emphasis on the cucumbers, big fresh cucumber flavor, fruity melon, some fresh basil, juniper berries hinting at grape, spruce-like botanicals, gin barrel, lemony citrus, peppery spice, a touch of vanilla, toffee, mild toasty caramelized malt, with some floral earthy herbal pine notes. Feels medium lighter bodied, creamy with smooth moderate carbonation. Overall a real complex and interesting brew.

Pretty light for a barrel aged beer. Nice aroma, nice flavor, but a little underwhelming. With all the flavor potential advertised, I expected more of a wow factor. A nice beer, just might not be worth the price.

this is pretty whack, but its downright innovative, i just take issue sometimes with when a beer is more ambitious in idea than it is good from an execution standpoint, and thats exactly what we have here. this should be more clear than it pours from the tap, it should be lighter in body, drier, and way more carbonated, not that its flat, but this should really pop, and it feels heavy to me. that said, the flavors here are awesome. its more basil than cucumber to me in both aroma and flavor, and beyond that, it seems like a thai or even purple bail to me, not a straight broad leafed green italian basil, there are floral and spicy aspects to it, really almost has an asian flare, not italian, from the basil, at least to me. cucumber is fleshy and dry, an essence not an additive it seems like, and the juniper and gin elements are also seemingly subservient to the basil, but still quite apparent. a clean almost menthol inhale to it, but more graininess and weight than these flavors seem to want in my opinion. i love how fresh the botanicals taste, and how different this is overall, but the refinement is seriously lacking, especially for these guys, and especially for the price. the idea is great but the quality of the beer should be higher overall. cool basil aspect though, my favorite part of this...

Appearance: Pours a clear, deep golden body with a stray, loose, brief white head.
Smell: Wafts of basil perfume, cucumber peels, juniper with a sweetish, scant toffee-esque note to it and odd hint of tea dosed with milk.
Taste: Upfront sugared toffee, blonde caramel quality with a splash of near-forgotten cooking sherry. Then, it's a curious melange of basil, tannic sweet tea, cucumber, juniper and liquour. Each item haphazardly pouncing on the next until finishing with a spicy, hot booziness.
Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation.
Overall: They took the original Coolcumber and bumped 'er up, not making it twice as refreshing and delightful, but, instead, made it kinda harsh and hot. Comes across as heavy-handed and clumsy.

The particular version I had was aged in Gin barrels. You do taste a hint of the gin, but overall you do taste a bunch of cucumber. As much as I want to like these barrel aged beers, they always seem to have a bit of a "funky" flavor to me. It kind of reminds me of that funk you get with some farmhouse ales or saisons. It's kind of off putting when mixed with cucumber and gin. It would be better if the flavors were a bit more "clean".

375ml bottle poured into a snifter
Bottled 5/17/17
A- pours a slightly hazy golden color with a one-finger foamy white head that has short retention and leaves a ring around the edge
S- aroma is muted overall, there are some juniper undertones that is reminiscent of a Christmas ale. Hints of cucumber and gin barrel
T- gin barrel is more prominent in the flavor, highlighted by juniper berry and some herbal basil notes, also a bit of ginger flavor. Mid-palate brings out undertones of cucumber, the finish gives more juniper and herbal notes
M- medium body and carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel and a thick slightly creamy finish
O- was a bit let down by this one, I thought that the gin would mesh better with the base beer. I actually prefer the base over this

Appearance - Pours Slightly cloudy deep golden color with nice white cap that lasts longer than I expected. Strings of lacing all around the glass.
Aroma - The cucumber stands out along with a hint of the gin. The basil works very well and compliments the aroma adding a nice herbed touch.
Taste - Wow the taste is huge, tons of cucumber and gin up front, the basil comes in toward the end and may carry just a touch too long. The barrel flavor adds some complexity and is also more toward the end.
Feel - Medium bodied well carbonated probably light side of medium the basil gives it a heavier presence in the mouth. A touch of heat from the gin on the finish.
Overall - I think this is a really well done beer gin/rum would not work well with a lot of beers but all the flavors work well. Only complaint is the basil carries a little too long in the taste.
