Genesis is brewed with over 200 lbs of Mango, Papaya, Guava and Pineapple and aged for 6-12 months in a variation of white wine barrels. Each batch is artfully blended to accentuate the tropical and wild nature of the yeast and fruit.

Thanks, Wil, for giving me yet more beer! You motorboatin' son of a bitch! Genesis is highly effervescent, so effervescent in fact that it crackles on the pour. The straw golden liquid is very pale and a mild haze runs throughout. The foam is white, large bubbled and very active. It rises to a slim cap but snaps, crackles, and pops down t absolutely nothing in a half second. After the head fizzles away it looks like apple juice.

The nose is both unique and intense. A solid dose of minerals with a slight metallic edge push through first. There's a touch of lactic funk that leans toward soured milk but don't fret, it goes well with the addition of fruit. The pineapple and guava are certainly noticeable, the other two fruits are indistinct. There's also a bit of diaper stank that segues into pig pen. The malt base is faint but sugar cookie driven. As the beer warms the vinous white wine notes begin to dominate.

The flavor profile isn't quite as deep as the nose but still very good. Lactic acid combines with pineapple and forms the main flavor component. Minerality brings an assortment of flavors; wet stone, iron, and soft wet oak. Guava and the other tropical fruits add a unique sweetness. As this beer warms huge white wine notes step forward and actually takes over.

A light and effervescent body fits the style well. The body itself is a shade under medium in weight and the carbonation lively. The middle has a touch of sweetness but it dries up on the swallow with an almost chalky finish. The tartness makes me salivate after each drink, instantly grabbing for another.

Genesis is another good, really unique beer from Wicked Weed. It morphs so much from opening to finishing the bottle that it's hard to believe. It's everything from funky to fruity to sweet to dry to white wine. I'd like to have another bottle of this for a few months down the road. Thanks again, Wil!

Pours a beautiful golden color with excellent carbonation. This beer should be regarded more highly than it currently is....moderate sour, very well balanced throughout, my first WW beer and won't be my last!

Small fizzly head that dies immediately to nothing. Beer color is clean, clear, typical blonde/light gold.

Aroma is fun and sour-tacular. Tart array of fruit, white wine woodiness, over nearly hidden pale malt. Fruit is green and red apple, plum, peach, green grapes, mixed with rosey floral.

Taste is ultra refreshing.... Bright flavors, tart fruit, smoothly sour and bitter. Apples, pitted fruits, and white wine on a trip to perhaps Hawaii or the Caribbean.

Carbonation could use some fine tuning. Very effervescent which I like but it fizzles out too quickly. Otherwise very drinkable; slick and dangerously suck down-able.

This is one of the better WW wild/sour ales in my opinion - I don't get much grape residue (flavor or color) from the petit verdot barrels but the oak plays nicely. The blend of tropical fruit that this sat on is delicate, but nice and flavorful. It's not really that "sour", but I think thats fine given the depth of other flavors to be found here. I would definitely look out for this one again.

500 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Very light yellow body. Small yellow head. Extremely thin collar.

Smell - White wine and oak gives it a yogurt acidic tinge. White wine sweetness.

Taste - Lightly tart. Lots of white wine. Oak. That yogurt flavor lingers in the back end.

Mouthfeel - Medium light body. Low carbonation.

Overall - Good wine barrel sour. Not very sour, but tons of wine barrel.

Gorgeous scents of sour pear, Apple, white wine, lemon, tangerines, guava and banana waft about but don't deliver much of that funky sour.

The flavor and feel are light and tempered but flavorful. Dry white wine, tropical fruit, coconut, pear, Apple, guava and pomegranate all make an appearance in sour ways but absent the vinegar funk.

Wicked Weed nailed this one because it's fantastic but never overly sour or funky.

Poured from the bottle into a tulip glass.

Pale lemon body, lambic like fizzing head, barely half a finger but settles to a simple and nice glowing orb like body. A bit of cola sticky carbonation on the sides though, but disappears after a short while. A little bit of minor pinhead rising carbonation but mostly very little if at all, with some creeping up the glass sides mostly. Slightly green body hue to this as well.

Mild brett like qualities, with a cake light malt density on the nose. Some malt sweetness hids a bit in there as well but hard to bring out after many whiffs. Classic fruit aromas are there but also very indistinct coming off the wild yeast. Tropical notes are not really coming out in full force here, but could be considered subtle and perhaps even subdued. Regardless very solid wild aroma brew.

Palate really starts to bring out the fruit flavors much more so than the hidden bouquet. Good amounts of thick pineapple all over, with a very subtle and slight peppercorn black finish. Juiced body just enough but not large, or booming, but certainly giving the flavors a big lift. Palate is a bit of a decent one trick pony, not particularly varied but a very good one at that. Oak character very small unfortunately with much of it coming from the mouthfeel it seems with a nice quality but also not giving to thicker and richer textures. Fruit angle is more evident in the palate than the nose, and comes off more unexpected and impressive.

Overall a pretty solid wild ale, just one short step from hitting some real satisfaction personally that hints of what could be around the corner.

Pours a straw yellow color with a small, bubbly white head that fizzles away quickly. Smell has a deep sour funk to it...lemon, apple, slight wood, white wine, and biscuits. Flavor is smooth tropical fruit sourness, creamsicle, grape, and mild dusty funk. Dry, lingering mineral quality. Thankfully, there is a very fine carbonation and acidity that keeps things interesting and a tartness that leaves the cheeks dry along the gumline. Fairly light and refreshing. Good.

Lots of grape must, not getting much tropical fruit but there is a slight citrus flavor. The grape dominates and mildly sour.

500mL bottle from Wicked Weed's brewpub (Asheville, NC). 13.95. No bottling date. Served in a goblet.

Pours a hazy, pale straw yellow with a fizz that quickly dissipates. Zero retention and zero lace, despite the small stream of bubbles making their way to the surface.

The nose is full of the sweet, inviting tropical fruits. Papaya, pineapple and guava with a hint of wine and a little bit of sourness in the background.

Taste is right in line with the aroma. Softly and approachably sour with the sweetly sour notes of tropical mango, guava and papaya. An omni present dry, yeasty funk plays off of the fruits. The grapey flavors of wine and woodsy barrel drift in and out between the fruits and yeast for a complex and enjoyable experience.

Body is fairly light with an interesting blend of sweet and medium dry feel. The carbonation is fizzy like soda without retaining any kind of head or lace. No surprises in the finish as flavors of tropical fruits, white wine and wild yeast continue their harmonious interplay.

Not my favorite sour by any means but Genesis has an excellent balance of flavors. Sour but not puckering, funky but not abrasive and quite easy to drink. As someone only on the fringes of enjoying the style, I think Wicked Weed seems to understand how to make delicious and approachable sours that keep me coming back to try more.

Blonde sour ale aged in wine barrels with mango, papaya, guava, and pineapple. Poured from a bottle into a Wicked Weed snifter. The pour is crystal clear and deep gold with about a finger of creamy white head that dissipates very quickly (not surprising given the acidity). I don't have a highly educated palate where sours are concerned, but I really dig the nose on this one. In addition to the typical sour notes of apples and white wine, I get sweet fruity notes of pears and pineapples.

Light body and a sharp, astringent feel. Not very highly carbonated. Dry stone-ground wheat crackers up front, then wine-like acidic notes. Apple cider, lemons, and green grapes punctuated by pineapples and pears. Dry, champagne-like finish. Very refreshing. Sour in a fruity way, but not musty or funky.

My initial instinct was to suggest that this beer could stand some additional carbonation. However, after trying it I'd be afraid it might intensify the sour notes and wash out some of those nice fruity characteristics. Hence, I'd leave it as it is. Sometimes I think sour beers are wasted on me. I've tried quite a few, but I wouldn't be lying if I said I found many of them to be nearly indistinguishable. That said, I thought this one was delightful. The tartness was not overwhelming, the fruit and wine barrels come through, and I did not detect any unpleasant flavors.

Nice and tarty notes in the smell and taste. The tart mixes very well with the tropical fruit notes. Although the papaya seems to be the strongest. However the fruits seem absent in the nose.

A: Golden and hazy, large and small bubbles rising fast, 2 fingers of off white head which fades fast.

S: Sour wild goodness mixed with creamy candied pineapple, tropical fruits, dry champagne and barrel quality also coming through. I also get lilies of the valley.

T: Sour, barrel age comes right in there, white wine qualities, very dry but fruity as in the tropical fruits without the sweetness. I get mangoes, perhaps some papaya, not so much pineapple.

M: Moderate to light acidic body with medium low flat soda like carbonation.

O: I picked this one up at the brewery in Asheville last summer, brought it to China and drank it here March 18th, 2015. Awesome brew. Takes me right back to my time at the brewery, enjoying their sampled brews along with fish and chips. Really good sour.

Pours a lightly chill hazed yellow with s small bar pout white head that does lace well.

Aroma is lots of sour funk good wine notes white grape light wine. Nice tropical fruits pineapple, papaya and mango blend nicely with the tartness.

Taste is just like the nose. Nice tart fruit funky sour, mmm. Light malt base supporting flavors that are vinous in nature makes for an enjoyable brew. Nice dry finish with lingering tartness and woody notes. Very well done.

Mouthfeel is light with nice medium carbonation.

Overall very enjoyable much praise to lady at the bar beside me who recommend this one.

Very excited to try this. My first sour from WW, and it's aged in white wine barrels with tropical fruits? Right up my alley.

Genesis pours a pale, cider-like straw color, with very little head retention. It smells like tart white wine grapes and a little bit of funk.

The taste is similar. Nice and crisp, with plenty of wine barrel character and some tartness that is a bit more subdued than in the nose. The tropical fruits really didn't come out for me until the beer warmed up, but they were definitely there.

The carbonation was on the low end of the spectrum. I would have preferred a bit more carb, but it really wasn't a detriment. Mouth feel was fine.

This reminded me of a tart saison, and I would probably rate it even a bit higher if it was listed as one. It just didn't quite bring the mouth-puckering sour that I look for in an American Wild Ale.

A: Crystal clear, very light pale straw yellow, a sliver of white head builds but is so small it doesn’t even cover the entire surface of the beer. Zero lacing. Looks undercarbed. 3.25

S: Quite funky, tart citrus, tropical fruit notes are present but not to the degree that I anticipated/hoped. Some vinous notes that remind me of white wine or champagne. Subtle vinegar. 4.25

T: Sweeter with more tropical fruits than the nose implied. Tart citrus, oaky on the finish. Vinous white grapes. Nice combination of sour and sweet. Really delicious beer. 4.5

M/D: I was afraid it was undercarbed, but luckily it was not. Lighter side of medium body, carbonation on the lower end but acceptable, drinkability is excellent. 4

O: Great beer. Probably my favorite WW sour. Much preferred from the bottle over draft. 4.25

Let stand at room temperature for 20 minutes before pouring.

A: Light straw color, slightly hazy. The coarse egg-shell head quickly retreats to a non-existent head, but moderate effervesce.

S. Sour yeast, bacteria, neutral oak, tropical fruits, and a little funk.

T. The taste describes the explanation much more than the nose. This is certainly a tart sour, with a strong oak barrel present with minor notes of a dry white wine. The tropical fruits blend to remind me of a canned tropical fruit cup. A little hop bitterness.

M. Very smooth, light body, moderate carbonation.

O. Very good. This is a fruited up light sour with an excellent barrel presence and high tart level. This is easy to drink and goes great with food. This could easily replace a white wine to accompany a good chicken or fish dish.

Let me start off this review by saying that I enjoy sours, but they are far from my favorite beer style. Pours almost white it's so clear, my girlfriend jokingly asked if I was sure I didn't buy a Miller Lite! Smells basically like moscato; sweet white wine. The taste is acidic and sour, but not even close to as sour as some I have tried. You can definitely taste that it was aged in white wine barrels. It is slightly fruity, pineapple and mango come to mind with a bit of a tart overtone. the acidity is what stays with you. Not perfect but I'm enjoying it for what it is, something different that I can drink slowly while enjoying a good movie. I assume people who are more sour enthusiastic than myself would find this an excellently made brew.

Poured on-tap at the brewery and served in a stemmed tulip, the beer is a hazy, white grape coloring, with a minimal, low profile, white head. Nose of tart white grape, chardonnay notes, and herbal highlights. Flavors are tangy white grape forward, with a citrus undertone, tropical fruit sweetness, and grassy highlights. Light and crisp, with tangy and tart aftertaste. The finish is clean and crisp. Wow! Great warm weather beer.

Pours a clear, gold color. 1/4 inch head of a white color. Slight retention and poor lacing. Smells of strong yeast, hops, sourness, tartness, citrus, alcohol, hint of wood, and a hint of liquor. Fits the style of an American Wild Ale. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. There is also a strong tartness. Tastes of slight liquor, alcohol, strong yeast, hops, hint of earthy malt, and a hint of sweet malt. Overall, weak appearance, good aroma, body, blend, and complexity.
