Notes/Commercial Description:
The Freak of Nature is our San Francisco inspired hoppy monster. At 8% abv and who knows how many ibu’s, this beer is our shrine to the Hop. Absurd amounts of the big West Coast hops gives this beer its citrusy, weedy nose and big, dank flavor. We dry hop with 48lbs per batch, which is over 3lbs of hops per barrel. In keeping with the classic style of the West Coast double, sugar plays a large part in creating this dry and minimally bitter double IPA. The Freak is particularly pintable for the style, so if you dare to enter, we welcome you to the Freak Show.

5 oz pour into a tasting glass on tap at the Wicked Weed taproom.

L – Medium amber color with a 1-finger creamy, cream-colored head. Nice retention and some patches of lacing. Clear with a good amount of bubbles.

S – Tons of hops with grapefruit, orange, and mango notes. There may be some bready malt here, too, but this is loaded with hops.

T – Just like the aroma, the taste is filled with bitter grapefruit, orange, and mango hops. That bready, caramel malt shows up for a second at the beginning and is quickly overshadowed by the bitter blast of hops. Really tasty.

F – Medium-to-full-bodied, good carbonation, a sticky and chewy mouthfeel, and a very bitter and dry finish. Grapefruit and mango hop bitterness lingers and pairs well with the mild throat-warmth from the alcohol.

O – This is a really tasty DIPA. It is loaded with hops that shine through in the aroma and the taste, and the mouthfeel is great. For a beer this big with an ABV like 8%, it is crazy drinkable, too. Really nice beer from Wicked Weed.

Pours a clear light golden with a thinner but quite sticky bone white head atop, grapefruit and fresh mown grass in the nose with a tinge of sweet onion, some alcohol sweetness as well.Sweet onion and pithy grapefruit flavors really hit ya at the onset, big almost raw-like hops just juicy and great, some sugary sweetness along with that lingering alcohol as well.A DIPA that's not as sweet and sugary as alot of them and the hops are large and in charge,a great DIPA here.

On tap at the brewpub in Asheville.
Pours clear with a light amber body and a very good head. Nice lacing.

This DIPA has a load of fruity hops in the nose. Pungent aroma.
Flavor: fruity but herbal and slightly dank hops dominate. Mild bitterness for style.

A: Surprisingly light clean tangerine-gold color with a nicely formed, basically white head. Good retention + some nice strangely lace on the glass.

S: This is an extra fun beer to smell. The cleanness carries through into the aroma. Very light but plentiful malts make a showcase for massive happy hoppiness. Very pleasantly fragrant. Bright citrus, dank red juicy berries, an array of miscellaneous floral scents, and some kind of stinky earthiness.

T: Big and flavorful. Super fresh too. Sweet, sour, bitter, resinous, juicy & mouthwatering. Flavors are clean like appearance and smell and there is certainly a massive pile of hops all over. I think I've traveled to super hop clarity-ville.

M: Texture is slick, smooth, and fluid. Body is fullish but easy going and far from too heavy feeling. Nice.

O: Fuck Yeah.
