Poured on-tap and served in a shaker pint, the beer is a hazy, copper-bronze coloring with a filmy, white head. Nose of grapefruit, marijuana, cut grass, moss, and resin. Flavors are very dank and bitter forward, with a rich, resinous, piney, and bitter blast. Pepper spices in the backbone, with a subtle grapefruit and caramel ribbon throughout. Very bitter and green aftertaste, with spices and floral highlights. Bitter, dry, and smooth finish. Beastly brew.

I was lucky enough to try this in Colorado. It was shipped in a growler. The only drawback was it had been in the grolwer about 3 weeks, so not super fresh. Having said that, it was still a top-notch Double IPA. So I can only imagine (er, fantasize?) how great it would be fresh.
The hops really shine on this beer. It's more of the "East Coast" style, in my opinion. More on the earthy/spicy side with just hints of fruit. There's just enough malt to take the edge off.
It's a pleasant sipper. The alcohol makes itself known but doesn't overwhelm you. The finish is dry, and clean enough to bring you back for more.
This is a real eye-opener for me as I've had little (if any?) prior contact with Asheville, N.C. beers - and I'm starting to realize what a beer mecca it's become. I'm glad to see Colorado breweries expanding there.
