Thanks to jtd1969 for bringing back this 32oz growler from his recent trip to Asheville.
A - caramel-ish orange with a big, pillowy, bubbly, off white head that quickly fades to a thin lacing
S - a hint of warm alcohol, some faint Belgian yeast funk, some spice, a bit grainy and sweet
T - sweet, grainy, some subtle notes from the sweet potato, some yeast, some apple and fruity esters
M - light to medium bodied, well carbonated
I give them credit for their uniqueness. A beer brewed with honey, sweet potato, and grits is not something you see everyday. Unfortunately, it was a bit sweet and the yeast ultimately dominates. There are some simple esters that comes through as well as some faint spice. In the end though this beer isn't one of my favorites. I give them points for effort, but there are better saisons out there.

on draft at beer study in chapel hill. into a snifter.
pours a hazy orange with a nice head. smell is yeasty but not really very strong. taste is also a tad weak. its extremely yeasty...a tad sweet at first, but actually finishes quite bitter. no sweet potato or grits flavor. medium bodied, mild carbonation.
overall can't say this is my favorite but its not bad.
