Wow. A lot of good things have been written in the reviews of this place and I concur completely. We sat outside for the Germany - Ghana World Cup match and the place was pretty well packed with a fairly boisterous crowd on hand. The vibe of this place was hard to beat and all the people we sat by were awesome - both locals and beer travelers like ourselves. The beer of course is top notch with an excellent selection of sours and barrel aged brews as well as great conventional choices and all at a very reasonable price. We had a couple appetizers which were fantastic - especially the beef tartar on toast. All of the above I expected, but what really surprised me was how attentive and knowledgeable the service was, especially considering how packed the place was. Our waitress had a great sense of timing. Overall by far our best stop in Asheville.

First time to Asheville--parking tougher than expected... Arrived around 1 PM on a Friday afternoon. I went straight downstairs to the beer bar rather than the upstairs restaurant. Not too crowded when I was there--kinda empty, but a good vibe. Great selection of stuff. Everything I had was very, very good. Service was attentive and knowledgeable. Food (bison burger) was good. This is a cool place, but mostly, my rating is based on the great beer...

Very cool brewery with a contemporary beer hall vibe.... Love the rotating selection and decent food menu. Always packed on the weekends though so don't expect to find a place to sit.

Great place. One of the best brew pubs that I have been to. Love the size, the connection of outdoor to indoor space, the variety of beer and food menu. Wicked Weed has done an outstanding job. Parking is difficult as you have to park on the street which can get pretty crowded with the other businesses nearby. The beer here is hop heavy with the occasional different brew downstairs.

Downstairs are concrete floors and walls of stone. 6 hightops, picnics rolling out the raised garage doors, and brewery equipment to the rear, and a small corner copper topped riveted together bar with a wood stave base. 25 taps from 5 barrel ends on the barback, and the wall above all blackboarded up listing tap selections. Seems there are a few beers here different than up of stairs (Tabernacle Crush, 7.8%, Sauv Blanc, gin, & southern peaches, nice beer; Ruffian Imperial Black IPA, 9.8%, all licorice but somehow misses.

Aside from the anticipated Hipster abundance, this place is legit. Plenty of WW beers on tap (I had the Free Byrd and Lumiere Rouge). Service was pretty good, attentive, although I don't think she was well-versed in the different brews offered. No biggie. The food - was way above average. I had the Bison Burger and was seasoned and cooked perfectly. I was also with my wife and two daughters, who are VERY picky eaters. They had the fish and chips and finished it easily without any prodding. Place is kid friendly as my 10 mnth old son was not the only baby in there. Overall, this is a place I would love to re-visit with more time to sample and perhaps, without the entire family in tow.

In Asheville, looking to get our Weed on. It’s been some years since I’ve been through and it drinks exactly nothing like I remember, the beer scene here having mad exploded. Dropped off by a cabbie who claims to have many times before dropped off and picked up here, but never ventured inside himself. Not sure this man can be trusted...

Long wide used to be a gas station looking place. Up past the pen out front and in. Sizable straight wide ‘L’ shaped block wood topped bar, panel base, & foot bar; seating for nearly a dozen and a half on wood slat backed chairs. 2 stainless steel barbell towers of 12 each at different points on the bar with logo lettered wood barrel stave block W-I-C-K-E-D-W-E-E-D, a single letter on each block. Barback is a series of wood units shelving stacked pints, shortys, & stems, wine, liquor, & house bottles on center. Horizontal 4 x 8 board above the bar lists a baker’s dozen or so taps (now and coming Saturday), + Funkatorium bottles. Hershey kiss drop lamps above the bar, track spots on the barback and beer board (beer & ABV).

The walls of big brick with a ‘hops are a wicked & pernicious weed” King Henry VIII quote from (we’re going to party like it’s) 1519 on the wall, and a giant wall covering print of him (or Dom DeLuise, not sure) on the other end. Slat wood floorings and high rafter ceilings. Shirts & shwag in the corner near the single large flatscreen.

Long banquet table action off the bar seating 32 on seemingly stave stools, and 3 hightops forward them along the panel window wall. On the other side, 3 booths to the rear with kitchen views through glass, a dozen 2 seaters out across the floor for push together, a ½ dozen tables on the far wall, and a 9 seat bar counter below the front rollup garage door windows looking over the out front. A pen on one side there holding a few benches and stand around tables, and on the other side, a dozen 2 seat tables for push together somewhat umbrella’d, a long shared table, and 3 curved hightops wrapping around a fire pit.

The menu lists 12 on tap right now, started with a sampler of 6 IPAs (Freak of Nature Double IPA, 8.6%, dank, citrus; Pearfigt IPA, 6.3%, cardamom, no thank you; Baldwin St IPA, 6.1%, New Zealand hops, spicy; Sweet Talker Sessionable IPA, 3.8%, yeah, okay; PAPI.P.A., 7%, W. Coast IPA, Amarillo, and a fuck ton of papaya; Another IPA, 6.9, fruity, floral, nicely balanced). Freak of Nature Double IPA, Baldwin Street IPA, Another IPA were the best of the IPA’s.

And then a bunch more mix & match (Abbey Double, 6.4%, nicely done, not too sweet, but dry; Calimost Gose, 3.7%, I get the salt salt salt, but it seems to lack the tart; Medora Blackberry Raspberry Sour, 6.6%, excellent, it could be the SPH Black Raspberry Lambic; Serenity, 5.5%, hello Brett, wine barreled goodness!; Bretticent, 6.5%, all Brett and citrusy). Medora & Serenity rock. Guess what? Witzel now likes bourbon barrel everything, his gateway being the Black Angel Cherry Sour. He knows it’s true. I myself, do not love it.

Bar counter space along the stairwell; Hey, let’s go downstairs and see what’s what. Concrete floors & walls of stone. The Tabernacle Crush is the jam; peach jam, that is).

Found the place where you buy bottles and did just that. If this is the main loc, then the Funkatorium must be madness.

...And the last hurrah Asheville two nights later having watched The Royal Tannenbaums through chapter 7 at some factory brewery on the right side of the tracks, and then rushed here to catch the bottle shop 6 minutes before they closed, as indeed I need 2 more of this and that.

Now seated for a late supper Saturday come 10pm. Started with a cup of the duck onion soup with croutons (yes!) and an iceberg wedge (pepper, bacon, & stupid smoked walnuts). Took the salad with ranch on the side and then totally ignored it because fuck ranch.

And beer (Napoleon Complex IPA, 4.5%, a solid session IPA, big and hop faced, dry hopped with Amarillo, Eldorado, Chinook, Columbus. And asked for a taster of 1 of the 4 pumpkin beers they put up today; Xibalba, 8.7%, pumpkin with cocoa nibs, ancho, serrano, & habanero chilis and fall spices. Good nib nose and a bit of the heat).

This place is absurd. There are currently 8 IPA’s on, just sayin’. 2 session, 2 DIPA, and 4 that range from West Coast to kiwi and otherwise. Fuckity. They've got their hop on nicely and the funk & sours are mad good. You should vacation here quarterly and bring me back bottles.
