From the Fall Sampler 12-pack, this is probably tied with the Rounder for my least favorite beer. There's nothing explicitly bad or wrong about this beer, but it's so purely average that it really isn't worth any extra consideration. I know I wouldn't go back to buy a six pack of the stuff - after the third in a week I feel like I've had enough to last the rest of the autumn.
From the regular old Blue Moon Harvest Pumpkin Ale bottle (lovely painting of a pumpkin patch, wheelbarrow and giant blue moon) it pours a nice copper brown with just the slightest amount of haze. I get about a finger of foam which doesn't last very long at all but leaves a good deal of film on the surface of the beer. The lacing on the side of the glass is minimal and of the soap sud variety.
Smell is very straightforward - a lot of spice (cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice) and a lot of malt, not much else. Taste is also just as straightforward with lots of spice, lots of malt, slight hoppy bitterness and earthiness and just the slightest hint of pumpkin flavor. If it weren't advertised on the bottle I probably wouldn't know it was pumpkin beer at all. Mouthfeel is crisp and clear but heavy enough that I know it's a cold weather beer.
So there you have it; not good, not bad, which leaves me very indifferent toward this beer. If you like spice you might like it, but there are better beers of this variety out there and your bucks would be better spent on those instead. If someone gives you one for free though, don't sneer at it. It's good enough and goes over well at social gatherings.
To good health and good beer.
