A decent copper-amber glow with a tannish, pocky head. The head did not retain for very long and the lacing is something left to desire. Warm and spicy smell, namely notes of nutmeg and cinnamon. A definate look and smell that conjures a crisp, autumn evening and someone's in the kitchen baking pies.
Overall flavor is somewhat bready, somewhat toasty, and not as much emphasis is placed on the spice or pumpkin (for that matter). The flavor is sweet and friendly, and the mouthfeel is medium-bodied in all of its maltiness. There is a slighly chocolatey note lingering around...barely noticable, but present if you let it be. The finish is semi-syrupy in flavor...kind of a not-so-clean syrup flavor. But it dries out nicely and it is in the finish that I pick up a pumpkin pie-like flavor.
I didn't have any expectations of this beer. I won't send everyone to the store to buy it. But it is certainly not a beer I would turn down. A nice meat and potatoes dinner would do just fine.
