This copper-colored ale is crafted with roasted malts, Belgian sugar and a touch of wheat for a rich caramel flavor and a smooth toffee finish.

Pours translucent red tinted dark brown with a faint head that quickly fades to nothing and leaves no lace.

Smell is of roasted malt, plums, raisins and a hint of cinnamon spice.

Taste is of malt, brown sugar and faint winter spices.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation.

This comes across as a sort of Belgian dubbel light. It has the malt and candi sugar. It has some of the aroma but falls short in appearance, flavor complexity and body. A decent effort.

I got this in the Blue Moon sampler which I mainly bought for the excellent Blue Moon Cinnamon Horchata Ale inside it -and the Gingerbread Ale I have yet to try (hopefully it's good)- As stated in my other review, not too much of a Blue Moon guy.

I saw the description of Mountain Abbey and thought I'd give it a shot as well, and actually hoped it would be good...but I didn't hold expectations too high.

Appearance: Deep Amber Brown color, with a decent toasted looking head.

Smell: At first, it just smelled like a regular Macro American Adjunct, but on the second smell, I detected some sweet brown sugar, toffee and some pecan nuttiness. Kinda boozy smelling as well.

Taste: Blend of described flavors. Toffee blended into the sugar, the sugar blended in the nuttiness. The sugar and toffee were most prevalent, and strangely it tasted slightly boozy throughout at times.

Mouthfeel: Combination of smooth yet rough. It would switch at times.

Overall: Wasn't bad, but wasn't extrordinarily good either. It was simply, OK. If I were to be offered this at a party or on tap, I'd take it maybe, but I wouldn't regularly seek it out. I will say this though, if it were more fine tuned, it could be a little more than ok.

Got this tonight. Every other store was closed and the gas station's limited selection had this, Sam Adams and a bunch of piss AALs.

Wasn't expecting munch. Blue Moon is a beer I have enjoyed among friends, not a go to beer. A little sweeter than regular Blue Moon. Overall not quite worth the $8.50, but not a terrible brew either. Try it if you want,

On tap.
Has a very weak aroma but, fortunately a less weak flavor. Still, the flavor is meek, even for Blue Moon, with a slightly sweet balance.

Feel: Near medium body and medium+ carbonation.

O: decent but too mild. Very light flavored compared to the Abita Amber sampled after it.

I had the whole six pack.
IT is a red brown ale that had about 1/2 to 1 inche head, nice lacing. no cloud, so it was filtered.
rich dark amber malt notes, some light hop notes. chocolate and toffee some burnt sugar.
Very rich malt front end with lots of character. nice balance to the malt side, still there is a slight hop bite. easy to drink, refreshing even
medium carbonation, kind of thin though, not quite a medium body. semi watery should have been IMHo a strong beer with more malt for winter.

its a decent brew. Nothing world class but drinkable. sweet refreshing beer. its a nice try and I know they could do it a tad better. and hey its not a wit or a PA, go figure. no fruit needed.

lol
