Blue Moon Chimp has a minimal amount of white foam, and just a tad bit of lacing left behind. The appearance is of mostly clear copper, with powdery sediment visible throughout and tiny little bubble streams. Aroma is of sweet, brown bread crust and mild cherry juice. Taste is similar, with low bitterness and a low alcohol presence. Mouthfeel is medium, and Blue Moon Chimp finishes semi-dry (like a cream sherry, for example) and easy drinking. This has more of a beer character than other cherry ales, which have that unpleasant cough medicine thing going on.

the cherry chimp is a weird one, fruity and wheat based, strong, maybe unnecessarily so. pink to red hued and quite sweet, almost gummy on the palate, and lasting a little longer than i need it to on the teeth and tongue. carbonation is nice though, and its not overly booze in taste, which i guess could be the appeal for some of these downtown bars where the dudes get predatorial and the chicks seem to like it. in a craft beer context it doesnt survive even basic scrutiny, although i like the concept. longer fermentation would be helpful, or maybe just a more hearty strain. the wheat malt is big enough to show through the fruit in flavor, which i like too, but the residual sugar is far to high to make this a drinkable beer for me. i do like that the blue moon line is expanding to include some less conventional stuff though, and with the name recognition nationally, it should turn some fringe beer people into craft drinkers, which is a great service to our craft. for that i commend it, but i dont want another one.

Tasted like a scotch ale at first taste. Cherries came through in later sips. Very strong but drinkable. A good sipping beer if you feel like getting a good buzz but not getting full. Definitely a nice change. Appearance is like a red ale with very little head.
