Blue Moon Belgian White is definitely a standout in the world of macrobrews. Whatever qualities it's lacking in, are made up for by being available nearly everywhere. It's refreshing to look at a row of taps at your local dive... Coors Light, Bud Light, and what's that? Blue Moon!
I've gone through the above scenario a few times :)
On to the beer! Blue Moon is a nice, medium yellow with a very cloudy haze throughout. It yields a nice 1.5-2 finger white head, but dissapates quickly leaving little to no lacing. Smells weak, normally, with orange peeking through. Nothing to rave about.
Sweeter on the palate than most witbiers, Blue Moon has a refreshing quality about it that makes it perfect for a summer day. It's got medium body and medium carbonation, with lots of orange coming through the entire drink. While not overwhelming, I've noticed the sweetness to become almost cloying after drinking a few.
Overall, Blue Moon is a great beer to have around. I'd choose many other witbiers over it, but if it's a Blue Moon or Bud Light decision... I think you'll know which way I'm leaning.
