Poured from a "best before" dated twist off bottle into a stange glass. I like that this is dated. Good work.
Pours a hazy orange-flesh colored body under a fizzy white head that disappears completely after a minute or two.
Smells of dry cracked wheat, light ripe fruit, a touch of estery yeastiness and a very subtle hint of floral hops.
This is actually a rather unique flavor, and not one that resembles any witbier I have tasted. The fruity notes are stronger and less yeasty in the flavor, they really resemble berries or some other mellow sweet fruit. A nice crackery malt flavor comes out in the end, which is nice as well, and tastes like it could be either from the wheat or malt.
The mouthfeel is light with ample carbonation. I would prefer the carbonation manifest as more compact, but that may just be me.
Conclusion: This isn't really a traditional Belgian style wheat beer. The characteristic yeast flavors just are not present. It is however as well mannered wheat beer that resembles American versions, and does a fine job at it. The flavors are all mellow and work together. This doesn't sparkle, but it does go down easy with some nice flavors and aromas along the way. Not bad for a large-scale production beer.
