Appearance: Clear toned copper body, atop which is a massive, dense off-white head, which retains superbly. The glass walls are adorned with Belgian-style lacing. The carbonation is slight, with rather small bubbles, and drifts lazily to the surface.
Aroma: Lots of wheat and caramel, orange peel, and some spicy hop notes, rather pleasant.
Taste: Opens with a strong Cascade hop note, soon after there are prominent caramel and toasted malts, and solid bread flavors, and later, bitter apple peel as well. Spicy alcohol and orange rind bring the taste to a close. The hop notes linger on well past the close of the taste.
Mouth feel: Smooth, soft, and pleasant.
Drinkability/notes: Much better than I expected. It will never be a "top 100" beer on BeerAdvocate, but I would be delighted to find Blue Moon Pale Moon in a convenience store of a small, rural town, or on tap at a national restaurant chain. Nicely done.
Presenation: Packaged in a custom twelve-ounce brown glass bottle with a twist-off crown, served in a standard Pilsener glass.
Serving type: bottle
