A - Impulse pours red with a little pink head that disappears quickly--fantastic look!

S -Smells of a cab red wine, but still retains some of the wheat beer nose.

T - The nice thing about using a less sweet grape like a Cabernet Sauvignon is that is doesn't make this beer fall into the malt beverage sweetness of other beer wine combinations. Great taste wine taste with a little wheat spice at the end.

M - Impulse capitalizes on my enjoyment of Red wine with it's mouthfeel; a rich but refreshing smoothness that leads to a dryness with plenty of carbonated bubbles.

O - This is what a blended beer and wine should taste like! I know it is hard for BA reviewers to give a beer from Coors a fair shake, but this one is worth trying if you love both beer and red wine!

750 ml capped bottle poured into a Blue Moon tulip.
8.5% ABV, APR0113 printed on shoulder.

A - Blue Moon Impulse pours strikingly red and quiet like a wine might. In the glass it's a blood red color reminiscent of a Cabernet Sauvignon, the same grape juice used in the beer. A pastel pink head tops the beer but disappears quickly.

S - An initial drive-by whiff might fool any beer drinker this is in fact a wine. The juice of the grapes, used has a direct effect on the beer; giving it the aroma of a Cabernet! Digging deeper reveals dusty, dry yeast intricacies with a touch of spice and soft wheat finish.

T - The aroma screams wine, which carries over into the flavor nicely. The subtle base of malt and wheat is all but overlapped by grape juice that directly reflects the type of wine it produces, not a generic "grape" flavor while faint yeast pokes through the finish with a touch of dry spice.

M - Impulse capitalizes on my enjoyment of Cabernet Sauvignon with it's mouthfeel; a rich but not thick entry that smoothly leads to a lingering dryness and touch of alcohol on the back end with one twist: carbonation.

O - Blue Moon takes a wheat beer and blends it so well with Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, it's hard to define any line between wine and beer, which I appreciate in this instance. From the startling color, captivating aroma, full flavor, and smooth feel, the only stark contrast is the addition of carbonation. Impulse is a completely unique experience and like it's partner Proximity, it's approachable and available.

The beer pours a purple color with a large pink (that's right, pink) head. The aroma is very wine like. I get a lot of the cabernet sauvignon grapes, with a little bit of biscuit or wheat thrown in. The flavor is very similar. I get some fruity notes from the grapes, but there is also some tannic notes like you would get from a big cabernet. There is some wheat and other malt notes, but this is really all about the grapes. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Poured from a brown 25.4 oz. bottle. Has a purple color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is dominated by grapes. Taste is grapes, wheat, alcohol, wine like, unique and different. Feels full bodied in the mouth and overall I was pleasantly surprised with this beer.

served from a bottle into 2 glasses (one for a friend and one for me)

This is a beautiful, dark, maroonish red. It has wonderful carbonation but is lacking a head (as is to be expected after my first experience with blue moon's wine-beer style, proximity)

The smell is less than what I had hoped from the look of it. Bits of fermented grape, slightly sweet, and even a hint of some wheat. Smells like wine and beer (duh).

You can definitely taste the wine in this. Honestly, I was surprised at how much i am enjoying this. I did not like Proximity at all, and I expected much of the same disappointment for this. Because of this maybe i have a bit of a bias because of the pleasant surprise. You can taste the sweet red grapes, slight alcohol burn, a slight bitter taste, and everything seems to work together, at least well enough to enjoy once.

The mouth feel is light and smooth, but it leaves a bit of a sticky sensation at the back of the throat, which i do not particularly enjoy.

overall this was a decent beer. It resembled more of a sparkling red wine than a beer, but for the style it at least fit relatively well. It tasted pretty good, and it wouldnt be a wasted buy if you find it at a good deal (like i did).

Had this at first at the beerfest earlier this year. Have to admit I was more excited to buy and try it than I am now. Not a very good job masking the alcohol however the taste of grapes comes through nicely. Don't regret buying it but won't do another one. Could be better. Make sure it's really cold otherwise smell of alcohol overpowers.

Bottle pour at the BevMo Holiday Beerfest held at Golden Road Brewing in Los Angeles, CA.

Pours a clear dark red with a foamy reddish-white head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, and dark fruit and grape aromas. Taste is much the same with a mild spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is interesting with the use of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.

This beer is a clear dark red with some violet highlights deep within. It looks a bit like red wine with the exception of the bubbling activity and the head. The head itself is off-white with a pale pinkish-purple hue that exists for most of its tenure as a thick foam of about half a finger's height and manages pretty good spotting.
Something similar but not quite exactly reminiscent of red wine does play out, more like mature grape juice than anything, under some dry wheat as well as both pale and some slightly chewier biscuit-like malts. It's got a touch of a vinous note both in the aroma and flavor. It has a nice semi-dry quality, though it thins a bit here and there and might play sweetness a little too far forward. It's a little dusty on the nose in a way that works better and ought to carry over to the flavor more effectively than it does. Overall, while simple, it works.
Carbonation isn't exactly heavy, but it works a bit too hard for the overall effect here. The body is about medium, and it has a good semi-dry effect. It's fairly smooth, and the feel of tannins on the roof of the mouth mingles with a sort of juiciness even as dry wheat puts a little bit of a grainy texture. Overall, as with the rest of the beer, it works pretty well.

A - clear gold with a soft, thin lacing of white head that disappears quickly

S - cereal grains, very faint grapes

T - cereal grains, sweet, grapes, alcohol

M - viscous, medium bodied, warm, smooth, well carbonated

This is a rather boring beer. It's primarily grainy and grape-y. It doesn't have any spice to indicate it's a Witbier nor does it offer any depth of flavor. It is easy to drink and non-offensive so in that respect it gets some bonus points for a Blue Moon offering, but otherwise disappointing and forgettable.
