A goto for many years. Not the greatest beer ever, but great for a change of pace.

This is something of a classic to me so I wanted to give it a review.

Look: Pours a nice deep reddish-amber with a touch of gold in the light. The head is off-white and rapidly diminishes to a ring. The lacing is light and somewhat consistent.

Smell: Toasty biscuit malt and ale-like fruit esters dominate the aroma. Gets a bit more aromatic as it warms.

Taste: Toasted caramel malt at first with nice bready characteristics. There are no apparent hops and the alcohol is more phantom than spirit.

Feel: Smooth with medium carbonation. The back end is a bit watery.

Overall: This is an easy drinker for me, and has a bit of a nostalgic tie because my dad used to drink it. A bit watery and one dimensional but its a cheaper beer made by Coors so you get a good bit of character for the money.

Poured from a 12oz. bottle.

A: Pours a red amber with a thin white head. Head fades quickly but leaves behind some bubbles that linger atop the beer. Little to no lacing.

S: Caramel, sweet malts, vanilla, and hints of cherry.

T: Follows the nose. Sweet malts up front with caramel, vanilla, and some subtle fruit flavors.

M: Light bodied, low carbonation, smooth easy drinker.

O: Not bad not great but definitely drinkable.

I went to my package store looking for Hooker Irish Red, but it wasn't in stock. They didn't have a huge selection of Irish Reds but they had Killians at $12.99/12pk which was a good price. Though not on the level of Hooker Irish this stuff was pretty good.

Wreckers Orlando 5/20/15

They called it Wreckers Red but it was definite Killians. Not sure if I liked it better because I had several really bad beers before this one so the plain generic taste seemed better and refreshing. Overall it's a standard beer that doesn't offend but doesn't impress at a either. It's ok.

What can I say...I've had worse, and I've definitely had better. This beer was probably much better before Coors got their hands on it, and I doubt it bears much resemblance to the original. I wonder how many people have confused this beer with the French version when rating it:

Glassware: Pint

Appearance: opaque ruby tinged copper with a thin off-white head

Smell: Strong roasted caramel. Very much like the caramel popcorn you get at the little stand on the boardwalk.

Taste: Roasted caramel with subtle sweetness

Mouth feel: Dances on the tongue. Finishes smooth with no after taste.

Overall: A nice, refreshing beer on a warm day.

Good beer to pair with food, especially pizza. It is a darker beer however can still be considered one of those everyday drinkers. Reminds me of one of the darker Sam Adams. 2-3 Finger tall head of foam however it quickly dies. Nice amount of carbonation. Would definitely recommend if you haven't tried this before.

meh, it's a nice drinkable red beer that goes great with dinner, mostly because it's the best beer available at most restaurants. my wife likes it. but she still can't drink the whole bottle sometimes.... I don't mind finishing it. I guess that says something. don't even waste decent beer.

Taste of caramels, biscuit and a bit peanut-y. I really enjoyed this beer, and it goes to show you can still make a good beer by sticking to the basics.

I usually drink these straight from the bottle, but what the hell. Pours in to a Craft Beer Exchange pint glass with a nice amber color and a high degree of transparency. 2 fingers of light beige foam disappear quickly, leaving only a thin film and a small collar. The aroma is pretty clean. Just some sweet malty aromas. Perhaps a little hint of ripened fruits. Not much there, but pleasant. The flavor of Killians is unmistakable. Of course there are the typical sweet caramel-like malt flavors that are common for the style. But there's also something more. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I'd say it's reminiscent of a vanilla extract flavor. It's a bit earthy, and reminds me of Jordanian almonds with that hard vanilla candy shell. I've picked this up in "vanilla" beers such as Snowdrift and Breckenridge, so it's odd to find it here, but it seems to work. The body of the beer is medium and easy. Quite unintimidating. It's simple and accessible. Despite some of the flavors being a bit disjointed, and a notion that the product may be on the "cheap" side, it comes together pretty well in the end. This is a classic that helped launch my love of craft beer. It was one of the first brews that I sampled that dared to stray from the fizzy, yellow water recipe, and I for that I am probably a bit a partial.
