Pours a black color. 1/4 inch head of an off-white color. Good retention and good lacing. Smells of strong smoke, sweet malt, roasted malt, hint of pale malt, and slight alcohol. Fits the style of an American Porter. Mouth fee is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of strong smoke, slight hop, slight sweet malt, slight roasted malt, hint of alcohol, and a hint of yeast. Overall, good appearance, aroma, body, and blend. The smoke is not over-powering, but an integral component.

Sampled as part of flight at the brewery.
Pours a dark brown, not quite opaque, with tan head. The nose is smoke forward with notes of burnt wood and mild chocolate. Some roasted barley notes come through at the finish. The taste is smokey and a bit one note. The malts don't seem to stand up to the smoke which makes for a one dimensional brew. Mouthfeel is on the thin side with appropriate carbonation. Overall, a standard smoked ale which lacks the necessary malt backbone.

poured on tap into Nonic pint at the brewery.
A - Dark, murky cola colored with a thin light brown cap. Minimal lacing.
S - Subtle roasted malts with a light charcoal scent. The faint smokiness comes from the Beach wood smoked malts. Hints of slight coffee and sweet chocolate round it out.
T - Enjoyable dark chocolate, coffee, and roasted malts. A pleasant sweet, light smokiness from the Beach wood smoked malt. This is a very good Porter.
M - Smooth, creamy and fairly full bodied.
O - A solid Porter from K4 that adds to their selection of beer. The smoked malts were and excellent choice.
