Thanks to my friend Fclfcs for grabbing me this brewery-only special release.

Very attractive appearance. The deep, crystal clear, crimson-amber liquid was topped by a one-finger tall, creamy, foamy, light tan crown. Drippy, patchy lacing stuck along the glass. The head slowly faded to a lasting cap of bubbles.

The aroma was a bit of a surprise. Crisp, tart, brett-like notes were instantly noticeable. Moderately funky. Fruity and semi-sweet with hints of raspberries and cherries. Somewhat lemony. Touch of oak. This had characteristics more akin to that of a wild ale than any other style of beer. With time, the funkiness died down and a sweet, caramelized malt presence became more apparent.

The flavor profile was drastically different from the nose. Notes of bready, biscuity malts appeared on the front end, along with some caramel-like sweetness. Fruity and somewhat spicy (perhaps from the rye) in the center. The hoppy, semi-bitter finish was crisp and citrusy. Notes of candied orange peel and pine sap were apparent. As the beer warmed, some tart and funky qualities came forth.

The mouthfeel was really impressive. Medium bodied. Super creamy, frothy and supple on the palate. A super fine and zippy effervescence gave the liquid a smooth, plush, pillowy quality.

Even though I picked up no indication of almond liqueur in this beer, it was still quite tasty and interesting. I look forward to seeing what the guys at Trillium do for their future experimental one-offs.

Pours a brownish red, with a nice frothy two finger head. Fades down to a nice film and a few bubbles on the top. It's smells a bit sour. Wasn't expecting a sour funk. I'm not picking up any almond aroma, though. Maybe when it warms up... Alright onto the taste. I can pick up the almonds here. Along with that sour funk, and a bitter finish. It has some nice flavor up front, although I could do with a little less bitterness on the end. It's very peppery, could probably pick out a tart apple flavor if I tried hard enough. Reminiscent of a rustic farmhouse ale. Mouthfeel is medium, creamy, feels very refreshing. Glad I got to try this. Have not had a chance to try the base beer, so not much to compare to. I do enjoy this beer as I drink more. I don't detect as much of the almond liquer barrels as I thought I would, but i'm ok with it.

The beer pours some very nice and foamy off-white head that leaves a lot of lacing behind. The beer itself is a deep ruby red that is obscure. The beer has a very strong almond smell that covers up the rye and very tarty smell as well. The funk is a cherry tart smell with bits of rye but the main smell is the almond liquor with a slight hint of the oak cask. The beer taste is slightly similar to the smell but the almond liquor and funk are not as dominant. The taste is more balanced with the rye making a stronger appearance with the funk dominating the aftertaste. The almond liquor and hints of oak slightly balance out the rye. The beer has a very smooth feel with very little carbonation. Overall, a pretty good beer and worth repeating again.
