07/24/14 bottling date. 3 days ago? Damn.
A: Pours an extremely cloudy light orange. So cloudy it almost looks like a witbier. A cross between a witbier and heady topper. Tall, frothy white head that fades out slowly. Nice retention and thick tendrils of lacing are left behind.
S: Oh geez. I've had a lot, and I mean a LOT of good beers in my life. This one still made me grin like a fool when I smelled it. The fresh, juicy hop aroma is off the wall. It's like fresh squeezed orange juice. There is some light, spicy, almost garlicky pine in there too. Tropical fruits, plenty of them. I swear I get kiwi and papaya? Is that even a thing? Really wonderful aroma regardless of my poor descriptions.
T: More of the same, just a bit less juicy. Lots of spicy, herbal, garlicky pine. Must be citra I assume because I also get some light, juicy tropical fruits floating around. Wonderful balance of hop flavors and intensity. Light bready, almost cracker-like malt at times. Sits in the background and lets the hops sing their song. Mildly bitter on the back end but nothing over the top at all. Mildly dry, herbal and spicy aftertaste.
M: Medium bodied, lightly dry. Goes down easy.
O: The hop flavors in this are bold and vibrant but are somehow not overpowering at the same time. Bitterness is moderate. Drinkability excels for such a hoppy beer as a result. I guess this IS an APA after all. I can't really quantify exactly why this is so delicious, it just got a level of balance, hoppiness and drinkability that you don't find often. Absolutely delicious. This is a Zombie Dust level APA, period.
