Thanks to JLindros for sharing.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice hazy caramel hue with a thin wispy head that left light lacing.

S - Aromas of caramel, barrel, vinous grape notes, light funk. Faint tartness. Pleasant and malty.

T - Taste is lightly sour, Nice barrel notes, good lactose creaminess. Faint vinous notes, light sourness. Malty sweetness.

M - Mouthfeel is on the thin side, kind of watery.

O - Overall this beer was a bit underwhelming. Rather bland.

Shared with Threelions and rudzud.

Nice creamy head covering, fades at a med pace, hazy caramel colored.

Nose starts right off with barrel, oaky barrel, big malt, sour darker caramel like malt, nice tart wild funk and bacteria, lacto possibly, Brett, little acidic tartness, raisin notes, mild fruity. Also sweet caramel.

Taste malty and barrel, nice toasted barrel with hint vinous notes, little sour berry like, tartness, hint raisiny like again, into caramel and mild sweet malts. Decent lacto, little Brett funk. Hint of acidic bite. Finish is little sticky, mild tartness, little barrel note.

Mouth is lighter bod, lighter carb, mild creamy.

Overall a bit of a let down. Ok beer but not a big Flanders or wild, more like oud bruin that's OK but not great.

375ml bottle split with JLindros and Rudzud.

A: Pours a very hazy brownish/copper with little to no head. Great legs that fade away rather quickly. Nothing really wowing me here. I'd hate to see what this looked like before some aging in the barrel.

S: Very assertive oud bruin aromas. Barrel notes right out in front. Very malty, slight heat from the alcohol. From a 'Red' I was assuming a Flanders Style Red but this is not at all what I was expecting.

T: Caramel, woody, earthy, vinous and raisiny. Very interesting. Not sure that I completely get what's going on here. Not bad by any stretch but not at all what I was expecting from a wild.

M: Very thin.

O: Not at all what I was expecting. Sometimes that can be a good thing but this time around I'm not very impressed. Appearance didn't wow me, smell was very unexpected, taste was interesting, complex but not great and was was pretty weak.

The beer pours some decent white with a hint of red bubbly head that dissipates very quickly. The beer itself is an opaque ruby with slight hints of reddish purple. The color reminds more of grape red wine than anything else. The smell is funky. The funk is a fairly tart smell with a bit of sour in it. The funk from this brew is definitely stronger than Trillium's previous wild offerings but mild enough for the average American craft beer drinker. Underneath the funk is a slight dark cherry smell and sweet fruit smell. The taste is very close to the smell. The funk is strong with this one. Huge tart notes that dominates the tongue with a slight flowery note. Overall, a very good wild ale and on that I hope will show up again soon.

The beer pours, like high grade maple syrup, a light, pale amber, and sits with a nice ruby tint to it. The beer forms a thin head of tiny, sand-dune white bubbles above the beer. The body is clean and clear, but with a nice haze, but also a definite translucence. On the nose, the beer smells soft and subtle, blending sweet caramel, oak, and sherry with faint cherry, leather, and even fainter barnyard. The sherry cask is quite prominent, and gives the nose a sweeter, oaky sherry tinge that had my girlfriend thinking barleywine. As it warms, I get hints of roast chocolate and grass. On the tongue, the beer tastes of soft acidity in the front and very finish of the beer, with a malty and fruity sweetness throughout. The middle and finish also introduce sticky amounts of oaky tannins with an herbal bitterness and soft astringency on the finish. In flavor, the beer begins as sweet cherries that blend with leather and prickly barnyard. A soft grassiness moves in to the middle of the sip, but that is then buried in thick, oak-soaked sherry, caramel malt, and definite herbal tannins that dry out the back of the palate. This dryness is off-centered by a burst of fruit in the finish, which blends cherries, blackberries, and a hint of strawberries, though the sherry notes are still very prominent. The aftertaste tastes softly of oak planks. In the mouth, the beer feels medium bodied, with a slightly prickly carbonation, a lightly syrupy mouthfeel, and definite tannic astringency on the finish that fights with the fruitiness to dry out the palate. After the beer leaves, the mouth is left with a sheen of saliva blanketing the tongue, reminding us that this beer definitely had some acidity in it, which can be forgotten given the large swath of complexity that moves in the taste. The roof of the mouth is left rather dry and slightly sticky. Overall, I’m a little conflicted with this beer. It is very good, don’t get me wrong, but it is subtle in terms of acidity and funk, and heavy in terms of sherry and oak. It is a great beer in terms of incorporating the barrel character, and it has some great complexities, but in terms of a “Flemish Red” style the beer is lacking in acidity and funk. I like this beer, but I wish it had more funk. Perhaps age will add that? As is, it is great as its own unique style, but not as much in terms of what I want for its suggested style.

Wait... is this that weird crap where they ruin clam chowder by pouring tomato paste into it?

No? Well okay, then.

I picked up two bottles at the brewery. Nice bottles, too--thick, brown glass, 12.7 ounces.

The pour is quite pleasantly strange. Looks aggressively fizzy at first, like maybe it's infected, but that tames out in a very nice, creamy head that strongly resembles a nitro pour (weird, right?).

Smells like a flanders red that's been mellowed out by barrel aging. A bit tame for an American Wild, but that's not at all a bad thing. Strongly resembles some of Russian River's early sours.

Tastes very similar to RR's Consecration, but even more mellow and quaffable. Tart, zippy cherries up front move into a middle that's a mix of a sweet brown ale and ripe, lightly sour fruit. Ends with just the slightest node of barrel-aged booze that lingers pleasantly.

Very good. Hunt it down.
