Our series of New-England saisons continues with Lineage Rye, a wild ale featuring Valley Malt Danko Rye. This rare Danish rye grain provides a subtle and balancing malt backbone to compliment the complex characteristics derived from aging in oak barrels with our wild yeast blend. Lineage Rye is medium in body and pours a deep, yellow-golden hue with engaging aromatics of mild brett-funk, spicy fruit, tart lemon peel, and oaky-vanilla. Following the nose, flavors of tart citrus fruit, mellow sour berry, faintly funky must, and soft oak intertwine with a supplementing bready, rye depth. Lineage Rye will age nicely with nuanced flavors slowly developing over time.

This beer pours out mostly clear, other than very small sediment floating throughout and forms a little over a finger worth of rocky, bone white bubbles. Crown dissipates rather quickly, leaving only an outer ring attached to the glass and a small island.
The nose carries a plethora of fruit for the prominence. Notes of peaches, apple skins, pears all dance throughout while letting a slight rye spiciness linger throughout.
Vinegar presence is the host of the show, coming out and taking the stage first, before introducing you to the special guest, earthy rye. The band of fruit composed of somewhat funky peaches, tart apple skins and pears sits in the background, careful in their position as accents to the show. They don’t overpower, but keep a presence throughout as well.
It’s tart, naturally tart. It’s not something that will peel the enamel off of your teeth, and I like that about it. Other than that it keeps a medium body throughout, light enough to be refreshing and without being too filling for what it is.
Overall, it’s a treat. I like how all the layers mix and how nothing remains too constant. Everything leans on each other for support and it doesn’t ever feel like any one aspect is weighing in too heavily.

Poured from a bottle dated 11/22/17 into the test glass
A - Color of late season sunflower, excellent clarity, solid carbonation feeds a rocky white cap. During the experience the froth dissipates and a ring of truth circles the glass interior.
S - Dusty with chalk, citrus reduction, white pepper, notes of honey, and a very herbal element and apricot.
T - Complicated to pull apart, spice from the Rye barrel, fruity pebbles in there, with apricot and green apple, nice mineral component like chalky French White . A very delicate grain component.
M - Dry, really dry. Semi tart start then a fruity wave, then the ashen dryness take over. Very nict to have the tart and dry play well
O - Glad to have waited on this one, Very delicate offering at this stage, Excellent stone fruit quality, and that wonderful dry finish keeps this offering inside the rails.

Pours an opaque light amber orange with fluffy white head, smell is fresh cut wet grass, sweet white grapes, champagne, some funk and bready malts, taste is sweet funky grape must, tart apple flesh, hints of rye spice, sour tannic finish, body is full and bright. The baby Bentley/ Chrysler 300 champagne equivalent. Perfect for toasting a 30th birthday.

Pours hazy gold with a dense creamy pillowy white foam head. Smells like funky oak, grainy rye spice, tart lemon, vanilla, slight berry, crackery malts, toasty hay, straw, mild barnyard funk, green apple, light banana, with floral earthy herbal grassy pine. Tastes like tart citrus, sour berry, some barnyard funk, toasty hay, straw, oak barrel, grainy rye spice, bready crackery malts, subtle vanilla, green apple, mild banana, with floral earthy herbal grassy pine. Feels medium bodied, creamy smooth with moderate carbonation. Overall a real nice oak aged wild saison with rye.
