Purchased at the LCBO with an aging date of March 2013. 750ml caged bottle served at 8deg C in a tulip glass.

A- Excellent carbonation. Opened with a hearty pop, poured with a 1.5" head that stayed for almost 5mins. Slightly cloudy off yellow colour.

S- Citrus overtones.

T- Citrus shines through right away. After warming slight sourness builds to a tart finish. Light on the palate surprisingly. Yeasty

M- Pretty good. Nice, light, full body with a touch of creaminess.

O- Not bad, will not go out of my way to get another however if I saw it on tap would definitely try it again.

Interesting beer from Niagara on the Lake. New breweries are popping up all over Ontario these days and the future looks bright for some interesting finds.

Thx for reading!

Oast House Saison has a foam dense enough you practically need a jackhammer to get to the golden liquid beneath it. Skip the spoon, reach for the ice cream scoop. Nevermind the backyard, you need to bury something, no one will find it underneath this mound of froth.

All that foam, however, does nothing to muffle the zestful and savoury aromatics of this yeast - even industrial ventilation is no match for bonafide Belgian strains. Notes of dried herbs (oregano) and fresh-cracked spice (coriander) compliment the the ale's straight-forwardly grainy smell.

The flavour plays out in similar fashion: simple, no frills cereal grain notes impart a dry straw- and hay-like profile that is lifted by hints of lemon zest, garden herbs, and black pepper. Faint tastes of apple and pear also run throughout, lending the impression of orchard fruits.

Saisons are traditionally farmers' beers. Indeed, with a pale, dry maltiness, underlying acidity and little peeps of tartness, it's an easy candidate for exhausted, hot weather quaffing. The only catch is the 6.5% alcohol - it's not exactly a "light" beer - but aside from the small rash of spice (fueled, really, by the yeast) it's a very chuggable beer.

Oast House Saison, though not quiet on the same level as, certainly invites comparisons to the great Belgian saisons. The only drawback is the price - something brewed an hour down the road shouldn't retail locally for almost double the cost of the highest rated offerings that crossed an ocean to get here. Still, this is a job very well done.

750ml Bottle from the ottawa lcbo for $12

Appearance - Gold colour with an average size fizzy/frothy white head. There is an average amount of carbonation showing and there is some fair lacing. The head lasted for 5 minutes or so before it was gone.

Smell - Cloves, lemons, floral, breads/grains

Taste & Mouth - There is an above average amount of carbonation and I can taste floral notes, cloves and lemon juice/zest. There is also a peppery spiciness and a honey sweetness.

Overall - Not mind blowing but pretty solid stuff. Maybe tastes a little like a wit beer but still a decent effort. Price might be a touch high but worth trying once.

Bottle: Poured a dirty cloudy beige color male with a nice huge white foamy head with great retention and some very good lacing. Aroma consists of light rustic flavours with some light yeasty and bready notes. Taste is dominated by quite a peppery yeasty punch with some rustic malt flavours with light hay notes. Body is full with great bottle conditioning and some strong carbonation. Very enjoyable and easily drinkable with nice spicy and peppery notes.

Oast house saison
Poured quite a cloudy light gold, good retention and film. 3.75
S is lemony, yeasty and a decent barnyard presence, horse blankets and hay.
T is good, lot of creamy carbonation which makes up a lot of the flavour, leather, lemon, pale malt and some strong saison yeast, finish is dry
Body has lots of filling carbonation, moderate body, dry finish.
A fairly classic saison, high on carbonation with a good yeast bite to it. While there's not a lot of decent saisons in ontario, so this is welcome, the price is steep at 17 a bottle. The yeast sed adds some farmhouse complexity and mustiness, some good classic pale saison farmhouse notes, stone fruit, and plentiful spicy yeasty, but complexity could be better, this didn't come across as an exceptional or complex saison, covers the profile and is balanced, I like them with less carb than this. Meh, try it if you want, I would have again if I wasn't paying.

750 ml bottle from LCBO

Opened with a big pop.

Lemon amber colour. Two 1/2 inch very white head of bit bubbles. Fast large stream of carbonation in the centre of the glass which gives it a cool appearance. Great thick lacing with some retention that left a dotted pattern on the glass.

Nice brett, barnyard aroma but lacks complexity.

A mild saison but shows some complexity. Malt taste at first ... toffee on white bread with a hint of bubblegum. Ends with mild grassy hops bitterness with some brett taste.

Medium dry feel with a great bit.

A well-made, interesting saison but on the mild side. Accessible but the big price tag ($10) will leave it on the shelf for me.

75 cl pour

Pours a clear golden with a white sudsy head.

Smells of banana esters and grass malts with some coriander.

Grassy citrusy malt with an estery flavor and a light floral hop.

Full body with a tingle of carbonation on the tongue.

A good but not quite great saison, still worth trying. Doesn't quite hold up to the top tier in this style.

Gold colour with hazy clarity and a lasting, fizzy head. Aroma is sweet, citrus-y and clean. Taste is estery, more fruity than spicey. Silky mouthfeel with champagne-like carbonation. A finish that fades quickly and leaves much to the imagination. Would definitely consider buying another one, despite the price!

Appearance - Pours a cloudy golden yellow with three fingers of foamy white head.

Smell - Clove, citrus, wheat, banana, spicy hops and yeast... spot on for the style.

Taste - Same as above with the aromas: spicy hops and yeast, citrus fruit, banana, clove. Spicy, peppery, and lively flavour. Touch of pleasant tartness.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with light-to-moderate carbonation.

Overall - A spot-on representation of a saison by Oast House Brewers. Hits all the right notes for aroma and flavour - very refreshing. Nice to see more breweries popping up near my old hometown.
