On tap at Oggi's Pizza and Brewing Company in Santa Clarita, CA.

Pours a clear gold with a foamy off-white head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, and some slight grass and hay aromas. Taste is much the same with a slight sweetness. There is a mild bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer but it's fairly basic and straightforward.

On tap at Oggi's Carmel Mountain.

A: The beer is...gold, yellow gold. The head is a small white cap. The body is transparent.

S: Corn and apple with biscuity malt. Lightly spicy in the nose. Maybe a touch of DMS. There's not much going on.

T: Cracker and biscuit with a light bitterness. There's a little corn in the flavor, and faint apple notes.

M: Light in body with moderate carbonation.

Overall: A run of the mill cream ale.

On tap at one of the Oggi's locations in San Diego, CA on 6/30/11.

A - Clear pale piss yellow liquid with a finger's worth of bubbly white head that dissipated to a patchy veil and left behind sparse lacing.

S - Light grassy hops and sweet corn-based malt as well as lightly toasted grains and a mild lemony zing comprise the fairly subtle nose of California Gold.

T - Sweet malt with plenty of caramel and corn up front give way to mild floral and grassy notes. Finishes with a light grainy, bready malt character.

M - Light bodied with mild carbonation and a fairly crisp, clean mouthfeel overall. Finishes with mild hop bitterness and residual sweetness on the palate.

D - Better'n Bud and Coors, at least. Overall, this is a very non-offensive, light and easy-to-drink cream ale.

On-tap at Oggi's Tustin

A: The beer pours a clear golden straw color with a fizzy white head and minimal retention.

S: Starts off innocently enough with some pale malts and a nice sweetness. A hint of floral hops and a sweet fruitiness to the beer. Then, there comes a strongly vegetal aroma that just ruins the beer. It's almost like broccoli.

T: The vegetable character is there from the start. Bit time grass and vegetable juice flavors. A mild bitterness, green apple, straw, and some moderate malt/grain sweetness.

M: Light in body with a moderate level of carbonation.

O: I would pass on this should we cross paths again.

Pours an amber golden colored body, very fizzy, with a small whitish head. Strong malty aroma, almost sour. Very malty nutty taste, hoppy bitter. Letting warm a bit. Less acidic, less bitter as it warms.

Poured a nice golden color with a small white head. Nose is slightly hopped and some grain to it. Taste matches the nose. Lightly hopped and well balanced but a pretty standard pale ale.Mouthfeel was light, crisp and balanced. More to the tradional style. Average Pale Ale but drinkable for sure. A pretty subpar Cream Ale.

Sample at the Santa Clarita location. Pours a clear pale golden color with a wispy white head that disappears quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Mildly hoppy aroma with biscuity malt. Light-bodied with lively carbonation. Toned-down hops and malt flavors with a touch of spice. The finish is short and lightly hopped. Not much going on here.

Consumed 11/05/07 at Oggi's in Santa Clarita, CA.

Clear pale yellow with average white head which faded normally. Nose is primarily sweet grain (corn). Flavor matches consistency: thin. Grainy, corny flavor with some sweetness finishes mostly clean with some residual malt lingering. No hop character to speak of. Not terrible, but no prize winner

Hmm, poured a crystal clear lemony yellow color with a bubbly white head. Not much lacing or staying power.

The nose has some grainy and pilsner quality but the biggest thing I can pick out is corn. Too much for style. Too much even for a pilsner or a cream. Diactyl is putting it lightly. Some lighter hop presence with more of a floral and citrus twist.

The taste is not as bad but definitely corny. There are some pilsner like quality with some a grainy and light husky taste. A tad of sulfur to boot as well. The hops are more presence with a nice bitterness and floral, spice finish. Some lingering sweetness that almost has a honey like characteristic.

The body is had a moderate feel and bit sweet for style. A bit under attenuated for me. Even with a limited head there is a good carbonation bite which helps out some of the bitterness come out.

The beer emerges from the 12-ounce brown plastic bottle with the twist off cap a clear gold, the head substantial, creamy white that fades leaving a fine curtain of lace. Nose has a nice malt sweetness, fresh and clean to the senses; start is somewhat sweet, a bit of bitterness at the back with the feel to the palate light. Finish has a customary acidity, the hops mild in their spiciness, aftertaste dry, seems like a good candidate for a session beer.

A happy hour purchase, on to the beer:

You might have guess from the name, it's a pale gold in color with a cracking head. The smell is sweet, mostly of cream. The taste leans towards the malty side with dextrin and cream notes, with a sizzling bitterness. It's a lighter ale offered at Oggi's, and does a good job of cleaning up food.

12 oz brown PET bottle, no freshness date.

Dark golden, with a short lived BMC type head.

Aroma is toasty with a very light fruitiness in the background.

Flavor is toasty & maybe a touch sweet, but not much really. All I could think of was hot buttered toast. Can I get some marmalade?

Your required part of a lineup, it seems. Cloudy gold with a bit of head. Bubbly and lace. A bit watery, well carbonated. I do not get a creamy mouthfeel, consistent with the syle. That beer cheese smell. Not bad bitterness, using sterling hop. About average for their lineup.

Presentation: 1 US Pint (16 fluid ounce) plastic brown bottle, yeah, plastic!!! Not seen a plastic beer bottle for many a year. Sealed with a screw on black plastic cap that breaks on release. Single main label looks like the picture on BA but with a dark blue background. Listed as “Oggi’s California Gold Blonde Ale” and described as “Brewed and Bottled by Our Own Left Cost Brewing Co, San Clemente, CA, USA”. No strength or freshness anywhere but there is a funny long code stamped onto the plastic bottle.

Appearance: Pale golden body, nice white head on the pour fades quickly to reveal a scum laden surface. Looks like a cheap Canned Light beer. Below average conditioning, I wonder if that is because of the plastic bottle, it shouldn’t be considering the use of fizzy Soda’s I guess. Bored, tired and flaccid looks.

Nose: Toasted malts with a dry hop funky back end that is sweaty and a tad off-putting. Hints of corn and some doughy bread.

Taste: Sweet breaded malts, light feel, gentle bitterness, almost none existence hop character. Not much else to write about to be honest. Sort of clean but cloying too.

Mouthfeel: Thin and watery, sickly at times, the sweet malts lend a macro feel to this one. Low carbonation accentuates the far from clean feel. Soggy!

Drinkability: Interesting, in a way, but not intriguing. Boring after a short while actually.

Overall: I expected a light Blonde Ale, but not one this weak and thin effort. In short, Oggi’s had a great chance to push the boundaries a little here and provide a tasty Blonde in a rather unique 16 ounce plastic bottle that would spread the word. But Oggi’s seems to have dropped this Blonde Ale to the Lowest Common Denominator. It was worth trying, heck it only cost me $1.53 at Hi-Times in Costa-Mesa, but not worth pursuing. A Miss.

16oz plastic bottle

A: Crystal clean. Light golden, not a lot of body. Color is almost an optical illusion. Head is creamy and white. Suprisingly nice looking head which is not dropping. Leaving nice rings around the glass.

S: Hello cream ale. Honey, orange blossum, vanilla. Fitting for the style

T: Lots of honey flavors. Sweet white corn, butter, vanilla and light maltiness.

M: Extremely creamy and luxorious. Very, very good.

D: Very easy and drinkable. Touch sweet actually. Much better than I thought it was going to be.

16 oz plastic bottle with screw top for $1.49 at LaBodega in Riverside, CA- my first ever appearance of an Oggi's brew, and the first non-macro plastic bottle I've seen. The label sez "Brewed and Bottled by Left Coast Brewing Company, San Clemente, CA." The label is similar to the one shown here, but has a dark blue background that makes it look a lot different.

Pours a medium golden-yellow with a frothy white head. Aroma is malt and light hops, and the flavor is a very nicely balanced malt/hop dance. Very simple beer, not a lot of complexity. This is fresh and refreshing, very easily drinkable, and quickly downed. I should have savored it more, but this wasn't made for that, I don't think.

Enjoyable, but overall bland style to start with.

Pours light golden with a nice head. Head is retained throughout the drink.
Aroma is only lightly hoppy...some citrus and bread.
Mouthfeel is thin...tastes of hops, bread, sweet malt, and sunshine. (bright - light - refreshing)
Aftertaste of hops and bread.
Very drinkable due to light taste and low ABV

Brewed & sampled on tap at Oggi's Scottsdale, AZ
This beer is a brilliantly clear, pale straw-gold color, it is topped by a frothy, white head that just barely rings the sides of the glass. The aroma has some slight herbal notes, some grassy grain notes and a sort of green-grape fruitiness.

The beer finishes with a creamy mouthfeel to it. This is accompanied by a lingering grain-like note. The beer is lightly sharp up front with a bit of spicy hop character and a biting note that is a combination of carbonation and hop bitterness. The beer is quite thin overall, which makes it quite refreshing. I could see myself drinking a couple of these on a hot day. This is a pretty standard example of a Blonde ale, definitely a step up from the BMC crowd. This is actually a pretty solid Blonde, but alas it is really not by bag.

Pours a golden orange color with a thin head that retains well. Aroma is mostly of light malts. The flavors is stronger than expected for a blondewith a big hop bitterness to start followed by a sour malt flavor. The flavor ends with a soft bready flavor. This beer feels good in the mouth exciting many different areas. It is also a bit heavier bodied than most blonde ales.

A good warm weather brew. This one poured a nice golden color with a small white head that settled into a thin pillow on top of the brew. The smell was quite light with only a little hop scent comming from it. The taste was pretty good though with a bit more fullness than your regular B/M/C brew. It made me think that this is what some of the major macros would taste like if their beers actually had a little bit of a hop presence and a more sturdy malt profile. A good ligher beer to have with a meal.

A very pale yellow beer, perfectly clear, with a thin white head. No lacing was noted with this beer. It is brewed for light beer drinkers and is quite light. It has a light malt nose. What the brewer calls a crisp finish I would regard as a bit astringent. This is more likely a macro brewer's beer and apparently that is the target for this beer in Oggi's lineup. I'll pass and head for their Scottish Ale.
