12 oz brown PET bottle, no freshness date.

Dark golden, with a short lived BMC type head.

Aroma is toasty with a very light fruitiness in the background.

Flavor is toasty & maybe a touch sweet, but not much really. All I could think of was hot buttered toast. Can I get some marmalade?

A: very pale gold--color of a light lager.short white head.

S:nice creamy, slightly sweet aroma.hints of sweet fruits, maybe berries.

T: definite pale malt quality. A little bland. Ends bitter.

M: light-bodied and quite dry. Low carbonation.

D: not terribly drinkable. I wouldn't have another.

On-tap at Oggi's Tustin

A: The beer pours a clear golden straw color with a fizzy white head and minimal retention.

S: Starts off innocently enough with some pale malts and a nice sweetness. A hint of floral hops and a sweet fruitiness to the beer. Then, there comes a strongly vegetal aroma that just ruins the beer. It's almost like broccoli.

T: The vegetable character is there from the start. Bit time grass and vegetable juice flavors. A mild bitterness, green apple, straw, and some moderate malt/grain sweetness.

M: Light in body with a moderate level of carbonation.

O: I would pass on this should we cross paths again.

Presentation: 1 US Pint (16 fluid ounce) plastic brown bottle, yeah, plastic!!! Not seen a plastic beer bottle for many a year. Sealed with a screw on black plastic cap that breaks on release. Single main label looks like the picture on BA but with a dark blue background. Listed as “Oggi’s California Gold Blonde Ale” and described as “Brewed and Bottled by Our Own Left Cost Brewing Co, San Clemente, CA, USA”. No strength or freshness anywhere but there is a funny long code stamped onto the plastic bottle.

Appearance: Pale golden body, nice white head on the pour fades quickly to reveal a scum laden surface. Looks like a cheap Canned Light beer. Below average conditioning, I wonder if that is because of the plastic bottle, it shouldn’t be considering the use of fizzy Soda’s I guess. Bored, tired and flaccid looks.

Nose: Toasted malts with a dry hop funky back end that is sweaty and a tad off-putting. Hints of corn and some doughy bread.

Taste: Sweet breaded malts, light feel, gentle bitterness, almost none existence hop character. Not much else to write about to be honest. Sort of clean but cloying too.

Mouthfeel: Thin and watery, sickly at times, the sweet malts lend a macro feel to this one. Low carbonation accentuates the far from clean feel. Soggy!

Drinkability: Interesting, in a way, but not intriguing. Boring after a short while actually.

Overall: I expected a light Blonde Ale, but not one this weak and thin effort. In short, Oggi’s had a great chance to push the boundaries a little here and provide a tasty Blonde in a rather unique 16 ounce plastic bottle that would spread the word. But Oggi’s seems to have dropped this Blonde Ale to the Lowest Common Denominator. It was worth trying, heck it only cost me $1.53 at Hi-Times in Costa-Mesa, but not worth pursuing. A Miss.

Reviewed 12/27/2007 (Draft @ Jobbing.com Arena, Phoenix, Arizona):

Pours an amber golden colored body, very fizzy, with a small whitish head. Strong malty aroma, almost sour. Very malty nutty taste, hoppy bitter. Letting warm a bit. Less acidic, less bitter as it warms.

Hmm, poured a crystal clear lemony yellow color with a bubbly white head. Not much lacing or staying power.

The nose has some grainy and pilsner quality but the biggest thing I can pick out is corn. Too much for style. Too much even for a pilsner or a cream. Diactyl is putting it lightly. Some lighter hop presence with more of a floral and citrus twist.

The taste is not as bad but definitely corny. There are some pilsner like quality with some a grainy and light husky taste. A tad of sulfur to boot as well. The hops are more presence with a nice bitterness and floral, spice finish. Some lingering sweetness that almost has a honey like characteristic.

The body is had a moderate feel and bit sweet for style. A bit under attenuated for me. Even with a limited head there is a good carbonation bite which helps out some of the bitterness come out.

A very pale yellow beer, perfectly clear, with a thin white head. No lacing was noted with this beer. It is brewed for light beer drinkers and is quite light. It has a light malt nose. What the brewer calls a crisp finish I would regard as a bit astringent. This is more likely a macro brewer's beer and apparently that is the target for this beer in Oggi's lineup. I'll pass and head for their Scottish Ale.

Sample at the Santa Clarita location. Pours a clear pale golden color with a wispy white head that disappears quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Mildly hoppy aroma with biscuity malt. Light-bodied with lively carbonation. Toned-down hops and malt flavors with a touch of spice. The finish is short and lightly hopped. Not much going on here.

Light gold color. Medium head. Aroma is very slightly malty. A light bodied blonde ale. Malts are mild and slightly fruity. Hops are slightly spicy. Mild flavors, not bad, but very light bearish. Well balanced. Very bright yeasts. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean. Aftertaste is mild and slightly sweet.

Consumed 11/05/07 at Oggi's in Santa Clarita, CA.

Clear pale yellow with average white head which faded normally. Nose is primarily sweet grain (corn). Flavor matches consistency: thin. Grainy, corny flavor with some sweetness finishes mostly clean with some residual malt lingering. No hop character to speak of. Not terrible, but no prize winner

On tap at Oggi's Carmel Mountain.

A: The beer is...gold, yellow gold. The head is a small white cap. The body is transparent.

S: Corn and apple with biscuity malt. Lightly spicy in the nose. Maybe a touch of DMS. There's not much going on.

T: Cracker and biscuit with a light bitterness. There's a little corn in the flavor, and faint apple notes.

M: Light in body with moderate carbonation.

Overall: A run of the mill cream ale.

Poured a nice golden color with a small white head. Nose is slightly hopped and some grain to it. Taste matches the nose. Lightly hopped and well balanced but a pretty standard pale ale.Mouthfeel was light, crisp and balanced. More to the tradional style. Average Pale Ale but drinkable for sure. A pretty subpar Cream Ale.

Your required part of a lineup, it seems. Cloudy gold with a bit of head. Bubbly and lace. A bit watery, well carbonated. I do not get a creamy mouthfeel, consistent with the syle. That beer cheese smell. Not bad bitterness, using sterling hop. About average for their lineup.

On tap at Oggi's Pizza and Brewing Company in Santa Clarita, CA.

Pours a clear gold with a foamy off-white head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, and some slight grass and hay aromas. Taste is much the same with a slight sweetness. There is a mild bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer but it's fairly basic and straightforward.
