On tap at Oggi's Pizza in San Diego,Copper color with whitish head that stuck around and some mild lacing.Nose was of malts, some floral and spices and fresh smelling, went down easily, nice blend of malts and citrus than the floral and spices kick in all going down with a refreshing mouthfeel to it,didn't mind this at all, well worth a try.

A light Amber color with a small head that disappears almost immediately.
Light aromas of toasted malt.
An immediate struggle between the sweetness of the toasted malt and the bitterness of the English Kent Goldings Hops meets the tongue. No one seem to win this battle.
Aftertaste is a sort of bland mixture of the bitter and the sweet.

On tap at Carmel Valley. Cloudy reddish colour, with some white head, lace in glass. C hop aroma. Definite bitterness and full mouthfeel from malt, which is there bit not pronounced. Some Golding hop. Better than average amber. One of the better offerings.

On tap at Oggi's Corona, CA location. Standard amber color as expected, this beer displayed the typical caramel maltiness, although later in the drink a bit of hops started to show through on the finish. The mouthfeel was a little more full and slick than I would prefer for an amber ale.

A: reddish amber copper with a decent head and some lacing.

S: slightly sweet with some amber malt. Minimal hops.

T: slightly sweet but rather grainy. Reminds me of the coating on prescription pills. A little bit off.

M: like nearly all Oggi's beers, this is too dry. Some carbonation and a light-medium body.

D: probably wouldn't grab another. Not too good.

Consumed 11/05/07 at Oggi's Santa Clarita, CA

Clear amber, tan head. No aroma whatsoever, even right up under my nose. Maybe served too cold? Missing hops in nose appear on palate as bitter citrus, battling and overcoming malt flavor. Matching aftertaste lingers a while. Not bad, but I was expecting more malt in an ESB.

On-tap at Oggi's Tustin

A: The beer pours the expected amber color with a finger of off-white head.

S: Starts off with a nice malty base of bread, toast, and toffee. A decent sweetness with some hops to balance it out. Not super pungent, but good citrus aromas and a hint of pine.

T: Moderately sweet with nice toffee, caramel, and toasted bread malt flavors. Hints of pine bitterness with some good citrus flavors, particularly orange and grapefruit.

M: Medium in body with a medium level of carbonation.

O: Of the house beers, this was one of the better options. Not great, but at least palatable.

Grabbed a pint with an Italian Stallion Pizza

Poured a dark red with little off-white head. Descent carbonation.

Nice crisp taste, served a little too cold, had to let it warm up a little. Smooth malt to hop balance pretty drinkable. Descent amber. Kind of boring.

Cheers!

On tap at Oggi's Carmel Mountain.

A: The beer is amber, imagine that. There's a little white head.

S: The beer is pretty malty. It's a lot more estery than I was expecting. Notes of pear and apple waft from the chalice. Malt is sugary and redolent of caramel and sweetbread.

T: Caramel malt with notes of apple and pear. I didn't expect such exotic fruits in this Oggi's amber. There's a light sugary sweetness. Lightly bitter, with bread, orange, and tangerine. There's evident alcohol in the finish.

M: Medium body with upper moderate carbonation.

Overall: A decent beer. Certainly more interesting than I was expecting.

In my experience, most California breweries make an amber ale that is just weak and geared toward the macro crowd who thinks they like micro brews. This beer has changed my mind. It is a truly well crafted micro brewed amber ale. It is not the best beer by any means, but for an amber, I was very impressed.

It pours a drab amber color with a very thin head on it. When I first saw this I was not looking forward to drinking this beer. But as I progressed I was more impressed by this amber. The aroma is of light floral and pine hops. The flavor is teaming with piney hops flavor support by a clean and sweet maltiness. The hop flavor is not because the beer is green (young), but a very clear and distinct hop flavor.

A good looking beer with a clear and beautiful dark amber coloring. There is a thin off-white to light tan head. It has very little lacing. The light nose came through with a bit of caramel and a touch of hops. It has a pleasant, smooth body. I liked the hopping on this beer, thought the brewer told me he is not yet pleased with it's hop mix - not enough distinct character. I noted an unpleasant bitter throat to this beer in the finish, especially as it warmed.

On tap at Oggi's Pizza and Brewing Company in Santa Clarita, CA.

Pours a clear dark copper with a foamy bone colored head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Thin rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, citrus zest, and a slight perfume-like aroma. Taste is of toasted malt and some earthy and herbal hops. There is a medium hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is easy to drink.

A: Reddish amber, no head when served to me, but thin lacing throughout.

S: Fairly sweet, with definite maltiness.

T: Bread sort of flavor with the malt. The sweetness shone through here. The mix of flavors wasn't great but wasn't unpleasant.

M: Kind of lumpy texture. Wasn't a fan.

O: Not a winner. It has a nice color though.

Thank you happy hour for making this neccesarry. On to the beer:

Orange to amber in color with a thin head, this is a decent amber. A little bit of citrus going on between the malt, it follows with a pinch of dough and sour fruit. The hop flavor is in the back of the mouth, which is echoed after it's washed down. It felt okay in the mouth, a bit watery perhaps. A nice, simple beer I had on my lunchbreak from work.

Reviewed 12/28/2007 (Sampler @ Oggi's Peoria, AZ):

Pours a reddish golden colored body, wit ha small whitish colored head. Does not have much aroma. Has a dry hoppy taste, some pine, and a leafy greens kind of taste. Still a little too hoppy for the sweet taste.

Brewed & sampled on tap at Oggi's Scottsdale, AZ
This beer is brilliantly clear and is a bright, deep red color. It is topped by a wispy, island forming, though mostly a ring around the glass, tan colored head. There is a sweetish, fruity aroma here, which has a fair amount of hops which serve to amplify the fruit note. There are some notes of grapefruit-like citrus and a touch of spiciness. Overall the aroma is on the light side, but is enjoyable and a nice surprise from a beer titled Amber.

The beer is lightly sweet up front, but quickly is dried out by some hop notes. The hops have a striking, herbal piney note to them, some grapefruit-like citrus notes, plus something in the finish that is almost harsh, but definitely a bit raw. This is interesting, I like this beer despite the harsh notes; this is sort of like a mini double IPA. I say that because of the raw hop character, the hop notes are solid and ample, but, of course, they are way muted when directly compared to a double IPA. This seems to capture the raw, aggressive hoppy essence of a super hopped beer, but in a much smaller (all around), easier drinking package. Very well balanced, but towards the hop end of course.

Poured a clear amber with a small tannish head. Nose what really not there, had a sweetness to it and some malts but not to good. Taste was more imoressive than the nose. Had some good malts, a little biscuity, a nice hops and maybe even maple syrup?? Good to average amber.
