look: 3 | smell: 2.75 | taste: 3.25 | feel: 2.75 | overall: 3

Poured from tap at 612 Brew tap room.

Appearance: Pours a clear deep amber color with a thin white cap of foam that fades quick.

Smell: Faint hops and rye with some roasted malts. Not much happening with the smell.

Taste: Citrus and pine hops with a faint flavor of rye, then some average malt flavors that don't really balance the bitterness of the hops very well. Leaves a bitter hop aftertaste.

Mouth feel: Medium body with medium carbonation. Bitter aftertaste on the tongue.

Overall: Another wholly underwhelming beer from 612. I'm starting to wonder if these brewmasters have a really good craft beer in them, because I haven't had one yet at 612.

Jazzed to stop by the new place with a couple of friends, anyone who's planning on a rye IPA for one of the flagship beers is someone I want to support...love me some rye.

Pint arrives at the bar & it's a dullish red-orange, little to no head on it. Nose sports a shot of spicy rye, tons of sweet malt, & the ghost of yesterday's hops.

Rated R isn't quite ready for prime time. The rye in the brew is a muted but present, but is overrun by a burgeoning malty sweetness that as it warms, veers into low-hanging red fruit territory; not ideal, to put it mildly. Hops, hops, there might be a bittering whiff or two , but it's covered up by the liberal sweetness. Mouth on it is dull & heavy, way to heavy for a relatively low-ABV brew (believe it was 5.6%).

One & done. If I knew a bit more about brewing, I'd say this beer was seriously under-attenuated. As is, a disappointment: really, it doesn't taste like this beer is dialed in yet. I won't be trying this again unless I hear it's moved in the direction of the description.

Amber, big sticky head, excellent clarity. Fruity nose. Not sure where the hops start and the yeast esters end. Not bad. Malty and bitter. Not much in the way for hop flavour. Reminds me a lot of Sierra Nevadas IPA offerings. Bitter finish. This is okay stuff. I'd try it again.
