Cloudy dirty blonde with a tower of loose pitted white froth and a steady stream of bubbles up the middle and lots of crust.
Pencil eraser, flowers, bubble gum and lemon custard on the nose.
Sweet pastry dough and angel food cake, a big rubbery phenol tang with some barnyard, then soap, lemon balm and some pretty rough citrus and aspirin hops.
Mild papaya finish and lingering white pepper spice.
Light, crisp, slight cling.

Lower ABV, or should I say more traditional, than most saisons these days. Yet some how manages to be hard work. Big flavors, but they're all over the place - it's a rocket dog of a yeast that they used. A grower, but still pretty rough.

Can't hang with this, but I should just really stop drinking Sorachi Ace beers.

Drank from my Duvel tulip. An English take on a Saison ! that is unusual,

A - Pours the classic saison look with it being cloudy and honeycomb colour. The head reduces to a film and laces.

S - Very hoppy with some sweetness in the background

T - Has and almost pale ale type flavour, the belgian character is not there. The hop profile is way too eminent for this style.

M - Light to Medium body with low to medium carbonation. maybe a touch thin

O - I'm not sure what hops were used in this beer but they are a misfit. Every aspect of this beer says saison except for the slightly overt hoppiness.

Poured from a 330ml bottle into a St. Thomas goblet.

Pours a hazy golden colour with a lively white head. Tons of sediment.

Smells quite hoppy and yeasty.

Tastes of light malts, fruity, peppery and citrusy hops, and a lot of yeast. Hops and (mostly) yeast are a bit too overpowering, leading to a slightly unpleasant taste. Light - mid bodied, very fizzy.

Overall an okay beer, not a great saison from my experience though.

Bottle-conditioned in a 330ml slim brown bottle, no 31/01/2014; served mildly chilled in a Hapkin’s short-stemmed tulip-shaped sniffer.

A: pours a hazy dark golden colour with a huge and tight off-white rocky froth on top of a healthy flow of fizziness.
S: mango-ish, lime-zesty, and grassy comes the hops on a par with peppery and semi-fennel-ish spicy esters and lactose-sugar drink-like yeasty aroma; given a swirl, the funky and perfumy elements intertwine to deliver a really fruity and enjoyable aroma, always with a neat, beautiful acidity which surrounds the mildly sweet malt body.
T: effervescent, the foretaste comes fiercely bitter and tangy, settling only slowly to deliver a bit of citric-zesty flavour, munbean-paste-like estery yeastiness and an uncompromising level of attenuation, rendering a lightly spicy, tannic bitter and utterly dry palate in the long finish, always with a decent level of acidity on the side.
M&O: despite being effervescent, the carbonation level is quite good for this type of ale, while the hops and yeasts both contribute a lot to the generally dry, bitter palate and really decent acidity enjoyed throughout the drink. Personally, I really really like the end product in this bottle, although the yeasty and sour-sweet fruitiness might have succumbed to the high level of attenuation rendered by the maturation process and bottle-conditioning.

Poured into a wine glass this produced a huge towering head of rocky white head, some really solid retention and lacing. The colour is mild amber honey gold, initially clear with strong carbonation.

S- juicy grapefruit, hay, some barnyard yeast, but more bakery like with the malt coming through. Tart raspberry, mango, then some more of the belgian yeast comes through a slight horseblanket. Lemon zest, and maybe some slight herbal bitterness.

T- A dry tannic hop character. Citrus rind, lemon drops, a dry yeast, barn floor. Orange, black pepper, more muted than the nose, but some dry barley and wood barn. A fair bit of the citrus and tropical hops come through, the barley is then really dry and the yeasty complexity it there but not as lively of flavoursome as hoped for.

M- full moderate body, good even carbonation. Light and refreshing with enough yeasty bite to it, could use more malt body to balance it though. The tart yeastiness doesn't have enough body to make this beer a balanced session saison.

This is certainly a good beer, but stops short of being great. On the palate it had a lot of flavour but had some inconsistant rough edges and was not as lively and fresh as the nose would suggest. The tropical and citrus fruit make it through and inject some tasty and needed character into this beer as the yeast doesn't really appear as the star of the show. A really interesting combination, and I quite like this beer, but it's unbalanced and doesn't stack up to the better saisons.
