On tap at the Green Lady, quick review from written notes.

Light hazy gold, sticky collar all around the edges that covers the glass in a sheet of lace. Good surface coverage with plenty more lace as the glass is sipped.

Grassy, earthy aroma, slightly vegetal hops and earthy Belgian yeast.

Moderately bitter up front with grassy botanical hop character, and a toasted grain kernels in the aftertaste. Mellow and medium bodied with an ample bitterness, toasty dry finish, and a slight dried citrus peel character. Interesting rustic saison from the UK that's a welcome departure from overly phenolic American saisons.

A. It has a straw gold color, hazy with a bit of sediment. Some bubbles rising up. A thick bubbly white head with some lacing.

S. Metallic, a bit of wheat, an odd grassy scent underneath.

T/M. It has a really tart taste. Kind of metallic. It's both grassy and wheaty, but it doesn't blend all that well. Some sweet grape taste. Carbonated. Light body.

O. The aftertaste isn't all that pleasant. It's not bad, just very odd.

330ml bottle into a snifter. no bottling date but im assuming some time in 2013

pours a bright yellow with a big fizzy head. par for the course of the style. the smell is slightly hoppy..slightly bitter..slightly tangy..good mix. the taste is tangy but definitely not like a normal saison. more like a belgian ale. its quite bitter and dry. it reminds me a lot of De Ranke's XX bitter, though not quite as bitter as that one, but its close in overall flavor. light bodied with high carbonation.

overall im not a fan of overly dry, bitter belgian ales so i cant say i liked this one very much. but if that kind of beer is your thing, thend youd enjoy this.

Appearance: Poured with a huge head of multiple fingers which slowly dissipated but was present throughout drinking. Banana/straw yellow color. Above average active carbonation in the glass while drinking. Lots of lacing left on the sides of the glass.

Smell: Getting a lot of peppercorns, spicy yeast, and leafy greens filled with cloves. Rustic grassy tones and earthy malts provide a good base for the aroma. For all the strong accents going on there is a lingering sweetness.

Taste: The Sorachi Ace hop is all over this. Bright front of tropical fruits and leafy greens. The body is filled with tangy, slightly sour bitter hop presence which really peaks on the palate. Peppery finish with a definitely saison yeast body rounds this one out.

Mouthfeel: Creamy mouthfeel with nice accents of sweet and bitter.

Overall: Sorachi Ace hops are made for saisons in my opinion. Perfect accents of sweet, bitter, and sour that play along perfect with the properties of a saison. Glad I gave this one a shot, certainly a nice treat from across the pond.

Served on-tap at Taproom No. 307 in New York, NY

A: Pours a lightly hazy medium apricot in color with light amounts of gentle carbonation along the surface of the beer and some faint golden yellow + burnt orange highlights. The beer has a two finger tall dense foamy white head that slowly reduces to a medium sized thick cap surrounded by a very thin film covering the majority of the remainder of the surface of the beer and a thick ring at the edges of the glass. Significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of spicy saison yeast and spices along with a slightly lighter aromas of lemon citrus. There is also a light amount of funkiness/horse blanket smell here in the background as well.

T: Upfront there are moderate flavors of pale malts with moderate amounts of spicy saison yeast and lighter flavors of spices (pink and white peppercorns). That is followed by light flavors of light fruits (white grape) and lemon citrus. Finally, there is a light funkiness that comes through giving it a straw-like barnyard flavor.

M: Light to medium bodied with slightly heavier than light amounts of carbonation. Slightly more than moderate amounts of dryness.

O: Enjoyable and a little different than I was expecting - a saison with some elements of a wild ale...lightly funky but refreshing and enjoyable. I think this is one that I would grab again if I came across it.

On-tap at Taproom No. 307, New York, NY

A: The beer is relatively clear golden yellow in color. It poured with a finger high bright white head that died down and left lots of lacing on the surface and down the sides of the glass as well as a collar around the edge.
S: Light to moderate aromas of spices are present in the nose along with hints of lemon citrus. The lemon becomes a bit stronger as the beer warms up.
T: The taste very much follows the smell and the spices linger through the finish. The spices don't seem quite as strong as the beer warms up.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This is a nice lemony and spicy saison that is quite easy to drink.

11.2oz bottle into tall chalice.

A- Should have used a different glass, we've got a live one on our hands. 5 fingers of bright white froth spring forth, filling over half of the glass. Tight, tiny bubbles form ranks that seem impenetrable and stubborn as hell.

S- bright lemon pith and white/pink peppercorns, dry and clean with mild funk. Straw.

T- Utterly confusing. The first thing I get smacks of slightly metallic smoke. The smoke carries through the entire taste, tainting everything in its wake. Some lemon, light cracker malt, light pepper spice. And smoke. This is truly odd.

M- Steely and clean, really bright and sharp. Practically levitates off the tongue with vigorous carbonation.

O- Expectations drinking a beer by someone called "The Wild Beer Co." completely shattered. Smoke offputting and ridiculous. Some shreds of decent beer here, but balance and offs ruin the potential. Nothing wild about this. Smoke??? Confused and disappointed.
