I find when I'm out of town that if I visit local pizza places, they often have the best selections of craft beer. You can often get more of the local flavor from these establishments than you can from visiting a single brewery. Following my own advice, I was not let down by Village Inn Sports Bar and Grille.

I visited Grand Rapids in September 2013, and discovered this pizza place just a few miles from the airport. They have 20 beers on tap, most of which are local craft beers. They had a lot of Founders products, Bells, New Holland, Shorts, Dark Horse, Greenbush, Vivant, and a few others. They aren't afraid to walk on the wild side with high gravity beers--for instance, I enjoyed a Founders Mango Magnifico 10% ABV out of a snifter. Well played.

I heard from other bar customers that their pizza was great, but I opted for a burger. I was not disappointed. It was delicious, and gave me the fortitude to drink more beer.

Service was great. They weren't very busy at 4pm in the afternoon, so I pretty much had the bartender to myself. She was fairly knowledgeable about their beer selection. When she didn't know the answer, she referred to their beer menu, which had descriptions and ABVs of their beers on tap.

If you're visiting Grand Rapids, or are a local and want to head to the suburbs for a great beer experience, I would recommend this place. I hear this is a great place to watch sports as well. They had lots of TVs around the bar and restaurant and 3 huge projection screens. Unfortunately, no big games were on, so I watched golf and women's tennis.
