Pours a bright yellow with a briew foam and a few streaming bubbles in the glass. A fairly thick mouthfeel, and a little silky. Plenty of carbonation.

Bright and sharp in the mouth. The wheat and rye together make for a more acidic brew, but it's interesting and certainly wakes up the old taste buds. Some wheat, malty flavors. Winey and tangy. The rye spiciness is quite pleasant. There is a conflict with the sharp Pilsner taste with an oddly flabby maltiness that tastes of oatmeal.

An interesting quaff that showcases the grainy flavors. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Beer Revolution in Oakland for five bucks.

I am normally a big hefeweizen fan...especially on a hot summer day, but the rye edge on this one takes it down a notch for me. It is still good...just not great...for my palate. It is still refreshing like a hefe should be. One tip, if you pair it with some of the foods shown as icons on the label (pasta w/alfredo sauce or medium-strong cheeses), it really does bring out the best in the beer.

Style: American Wheat Beer With Rye

Pour: Fluffy head that dissolves into a transparent constellation of tiny bubbles

Appearance: Golden. Kind of cloudy - not 'wheat beer cloudy',

Flavor: Floral nose. Crisp fruity-ness and the dark visitor lurking off-screen-left makes it different than the typical wheat beer. After a while though an overall sweetness prevails and kind of overtakes the 'rye' quality - which when I think of rye whiskey - and hold in high esteem - should have been dry, peppery and lively.

Session character: 4.5 ABV. The first glass was pretty nice but it didn't grab my attention long enough to truly rate as a session beer.

Serving type: Can, poured into a pilsener glass.
