What does one want in a bar? I like a place where I can go hang out with friends and drink some good beer. I want to be able to see and hear the people I am with. If there's music, I'll hope it won't be overpowering or offensive upon mine ears. I want a variety of craft beer options from which to choose. I want to be comfortable and not have to break the bank.

The Brew House provides all of these things. I walked in on a Tuesday night, a little after 10:00 pm, and it was rather uncrowded. A bartender, 3 or 4 patrons scattered around the room, and a group of 6 or so older folks gathered around a table, holding various sorts of musical instruments, and talking about...well I wasn't listening. When I ordered my beer (a $4 pint of Bell's Two Hearted), the band began playing something folksy. Live amateur music that was well-executed and very fun to listen to. The atmosphere was certainly different from most bars I've been to and from what it seems that most people like, but it was just about spot-on for me. The only complaint is the outdated and slightly deteriorating decor. But it has a charm about it at the same time.

They have a good selection of draft beer. If there are 8 taps, 1 is Bud, 1 is Guinness, the rest are a good variety of craft ales and lagers, mostly regional. There is a pretty substantial bottle selection with many very good beers, mostly American craft. Prices are good, I think everything is $4 except for higher gravity beers (Hopslam was $6/bottle).

The main bartender took good care of us and was very helpful and polite. For a few minutes, she took off, and one of the owners came behind the bar, asked what I was drinking, offered me a taste of one of her favorite beers on tap, and we talked about beer, and our backgrounds. It was very pleasant.

If I lived down the street, I'd be here 4 nights a week. I'll have to go back at a busier time and also try the food. This is a good place.
