Clear red-amber body. Thick, creamy nitro-style head. Lots of thick rings left on the glass, as is usual for a nitro. Very nice and balanced aroma: bready caramel malt blends with citrus hops. Tastes of grapefruit citrus with plenty of oily hop bitterness. Just enough caramel malt flavor for a bit of balance, but the hops certainly dominate this one. Typical nitro creaminess to the brew, but the body seems a bit thin. Decent beer, but it's probably better without the nitro.

Firkin offering at Alefort. grapefruit added to this, making it much more citrusy. However, I didn't think the fruit complemented the malt bill, making for a confused palate.

On draught at the Lacey, Washington Big Horn, Big Red is a chill hazed burnt gold with a white head that leaves decent lace. I like the pale amber / reddish color.

Smell is resinous west coast hops, but not too strong.

Taste captures a bigger hop flavor, big amarillo citrus with a balanced bitterness. Nice IPA, satisfyingly fresh, I'm frankly quite surprised.

Mouthfeel is slick, a bit chewy, medium bodied.

Drinkability is good, it's a well made IPA that hit the spot for my hop cravings with it's nice pungency. I sampled a few others on this pit-stop, my first visit to any RAM, and Big Red was by far the best.

I had this one on tap at their Schaumburg, IL outpost.

The beer was poured more bronze than red. It had a nice small white head and above average lacing.

The nose was of citrus, pine and was some what floral. Nothing off putting here.

The taste was solid. I liked the nice bracing bitterness. It was accented by a light plum/pear taste. The beer also has some of that heavy duty pine sap taste, which I Iike.

The beer had very low carbonation and a slightly thin mouthfeel.

This was a decent enjoyable IPA that could use a little more malt for balance (which I think would also beef-up the mouthfeel).

Indianapolis location for this review. I have also been to Salem, Oregon location.

I thought this was a pretty good ale. It was worth the trouble to compare the brewpubs downtown Indy to find something worth
a repeat visit. I thought this ale had good hop flavor and I liked it better than a 'special' Winter Stout they also offered.

From a sampler at the Indy location: Pours a reddish-amber color with a medium light beige head. Thin lacing. The aroma is moderately hoppy with some citrus as well. The body is not too rich. The flavor is nicely hopped at first but it drops off dramatically by the end. The finish is decent, with a mixture of floral and citrusy hops. A little better than average overall.

This IPA tastes of American hops. There is a slight bit of a Grapefruit taste, and it finishes nicely bitter, though it is deffinitely not over the top for an IPA. Fairly malty with a hint of sweetness. A nice work horse of an IPA. A nice amber color, with a slight amount of chill haze.

Big Horn's version of an IPA left a lot to be desired.

The appearance was coppery with a very thin head, with very little aroma -- perhaps a little bit of citrus fruit. The taste was reminiscent of a skunked Dos Equis Amber (yes, I've tasted a skunked XX Amber) - dry, malty and bitter.

The mouthfeel score probably suffers a little from the taste, as does the drinkablity. I was able to get it all down, but it was not a pleasant experience.

By the way, our server told me that numerous patrons had echoed my exact concerns when I detailed my disappointment about the IPA.

A just above average looking IPA..a hazy brownish?orange with a large frothy white head..it hangs around a while.
Pretty good aroma, you can detect the "sherberty" hoppiness right away. Not too bad.
Very nice tasting IPA the hops are actually quite subdued compared to other American IPAs..theres a good detetctable malt backbone to this beer..along with the great "grapefruit" flavour of the hops..good bitterness in the aftertatse..this seems more like an English style IPA which is a good thing for me.
Nice enough in the mouth.
Great drinkability to this brew.

This used to be called Big Red IPA. Whats up with that? Minus 2 points for the marketing. Light amber color. Medium malts, slightly hoppy. Slightly caramelized malts, some malt sweetness. Not a typical IPA in that its not very hoppy it more of an amber ale. Finish is clean. Aftertaste is malty

Nice copper color. A thin off white head graces the top of the beer. A decent collar is present. Adequate lace is left behind. Big citrus aroma. Pineapple, fruit juice and mango. Love it. Nice mouthfeel. Medium-full body. Great taste. Pineapple is huge. Resin. Rind characteristics. This stuff is gold. One of my favorite IPAs.

Pours a reddish amber color with a creamy white head that fades into a sticky lace. Nose is dominated by floral hops. A strong hop presence also comes through in the taste and is a bit grainy. Finish is oily and bitter hops. If you like hops, you’ll enjoy this beer.
