Rooney's Veterans and Civilians is brewed by Rivertowne for Rooney's and pays homage to one of the Rooney family's (Pittsburgh Steeler Rooneys) original brews from the 1930's

A great Munich Helles Lager, or is it a Pils? Probably the better parts of both.

I can't say it better than the label "A refreshing blond lager with the perfect balance between soft malty-bready notes & spicy American Saaz hops. Light bodied, dry, crisp & clean throughout."
Will be a fantastic "Lawnmower Beer". I grabbed a bunch!

$2.49 @ Total Wine & More #901, Tampa, FL

NOTE: This beer is registered with the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board as RIVERTOWNE ROONEY'S VETERANS under the Manufacturer/Franchisee FYBOMAX INC. as opposed to ROONEY'S BEER CO LLC which contract brews ROONEY'S LAGER and ROONEY'S OLD IRISH STYLE ALE (currently through the Pennsylvania Brewing Co.). As it stands this is technically a Rivertowne (Fybomax) brand.

Rooney's Veterans All American Beer pours a crystal clear deep gold body beneath a short head of bright white that wanes but leaves some impressive lacing behind.

There's not much in the aroma beyond sweetish malt and a light touch of apple-like fruitiness; and the mouthfeel is quite basic: light-medium in body with a fine-bubbled slightly below standard carbonation level.

It appears to be an all-malt beer with a pleasant touch of hop flavor. The label reads "A refreshing blond lager with the perfect balance between soft malty-bready notes & spicy American Saaz hops. Light bodied, dry, crisp & clean throughout. O.G. 11.5 ALC by Vol. 4.4%"

I'm not sure what the "American Saaz hops" are, but they come through delivering some gentle grassiness and spice atop what are truly "soft malty-bready notes". It's clean, displaying only a mild touch of apple-like fruitiness and no yeasty sulphur whatsoever. A restrained bitterness balances it just to the point that the residual malt doesn't become sticky and it finishes mainly dry.

The label also reads "Lager & Pilsner", and to a certain degree you can't argue that. It's certainly a lager, and it also fits into the pils category fairly well, albeit on the low end of the scale and perhaps with a slightly lower than expected bitterness level. In essence, it's the perfect combination of a Pils and a retro American lager.
