An interesting concept. A growler store that uses the Craft tap filler, which is a counter pressure filler. Supposedly this technique does not let in oxygen, and they say a growler will last months (if unopened). Personally, I don't get why anyone wants to hold on to an unopened growler for that long? Growlers, for me are the ultimate fresh and instant gratification for getting good tap beer at home.

Anyway, the store is nice. A cooler full of beer on the left, and the counter on the right. Right now they only have one tower, with four taps. They have installed about 20 more taps since they opened. The bottle selection is good, not great. Some Alaskan, of coarse some local Texas beers like Saint Arnold, Southern Star, and Real Ale. All in singles, with a discount for a mix sixer. The tap selection right now is Double Buffalo, Independence Stash, Live Oak Hefeweizen, and Southern Star Old Potentate. I ended up with a Live Oak Hefe, and watched that crazy pressure filler. From everything I saw, and expected, I thought there was suppose to be no oxygen in the bottle. Well there is quite a bit of foam in the bottle when it is all done. No more than a regular growler fill, though that means there is oxygen in there and it will probably not last as long as they say. Also, the fact that they have 4 lines of beer coming out of one tap concerns me. I was not given a satisfactory answer on how that one tap line is cleaned. The service is friendly and attentive, knowledgeable about beer in general, but not so about the particulars of the complex system they have.

They have growlers to buy there, or you can bring in your own. Though I love Premium Draught's exchange program. At PD, you buy the glass once and every time you bring it back they take it and give you a new clean one. I don't think they do that here. They will certainly refill anything, but you have to clean it yourself. Which is not a big deal, but there is no substitute for a spotless growler that is basically new.

Overall, a nice store, and I will be interested to see what new taps they are going to bring in. I need to come back when they get into their groove. Though Premium Draught hit it out of the park from the get go, and I don't see a big reason why people need the counter pressure fill over a regular fill? I understand it, just don't understand why it is needed.
