Visited this place for the first and so far only time to catch game 3 of the World Series. I had heard it was a gathering place for Red Sox fans like myself, and was happy to find a pretty decent sized contingent of us. Anyway, this place is pretty much a sports bar with many, many t.v.'s, each of them tuned to either football or baseball on that night. It was pretty loud and a good atmosphere to watch games and hang out with large groups of people.

As for the beer, the Mug has 24 drafts and probably about 12-15 bottles. Unfortunately, of those selections approximately 75% are dedicated to straight-out macros, faux crafts (i.e. Blue Moon), Euro swill (see Heineken), or pretty run-of-the-mill basic level crafts. There were about 5 or so decent drafts such as Ayinger Brau Weisse, Dogfish 60 Minute, Goose Island IPA, and a couple of Sam Adams styles. Bottles were all macro with a Sam Adams Light added for good measure. Suffice it to say that for the most part, this was a very underwhelming beer selection. I know it's a sports bar and all, but would it kill this place to maybe devote half of their handles or even 3-4 bottles to decent beer and perhaps put 1-2 semi-exotic selections on the menu?

Service was good. We were given an appropriate amount of attention for such a busy evening. The food was very good for pub fare. I had a Southwest Burger that was great and all of the other dishes looked quite well done and tasty.

All in all this is a decent place to go to watch a game. If you are fine with sipping on a limited range of tasty but non-challenging brews you can certainly survive a night at the Ugly Mug. However, if you are looking for a place to sample a diverse array of quality brews you will most certainly need to look elsewhere.
