From the shadows of a dark and opulent curtain spring the robust aromas of locally roasted coffee and hardy malt. Deep-seated hop bitterness rallies with these conspirators, delivering a well-balanced thrust of assertive flavor to a bland tyrant. Raise a glass in celebration of liberating taste. Et tu, Brewte?

Draught 8oz snifter at the Brass Tap here in Baltimore. Solid coffee stout.
Edited 20190310: After further 'sampling' upped the "smell" rating a quarter point - definitely a nice coffee aroma (I may have been congested the first time)

My Basement Bottle Backlog is now beginning to burp forth some beers that had gotten rotated into its cool dankness at one point or another. My current health concern has prompted me to begin scouring through everything down there & start showing them some love. C'est la vie!
From the Bottle: "From the shadows of a dark and opulent curtain spring the robust aromas of locally roasted coffee and hardy malt. 'Et tu, Brewte?'"; "[undersigned] Tom Flores, Brewmaster".
I began, as I usually do, with a Pop! of the cap, followed by a slow, gentle pour into the awaiting glass. It did not create a lot of head, but as I mulled over either leaving it as is or going with an in-glass swirl, it settled into such beautiful wisps that I decided to leave things be. Color was simply Black/Opaque (SRM = 44), allowing for ZERO light penetration. Nose was rich & redolent with coffee. I'm talking about the kind of smoking black coffee that I like seeing streaming into my pot every morning after having super-loaded the filter! Man, this was coffee on a grand scale! Mouthfeel was big, but it lacked the full creaminess that I have come to know, love & expect in/from this style. The taste was very much of black, bitter coffee, but it somehow did not reach the level of the nose. Instead, it was kinda muted & I was left feeling unfulfilled. Is that fair of me to say? Is that a bit too subjective? Finish was dry & bitter, but I was not as happy with it as I have been with so many in the style. YMMV.

my first beer from these guys, its absolutely awesome, even though its been in the cellar for a bit, the coffee hasnt faded at all. its dense and black from the bottle, holds a surprisingly airy off white head awhile, and has the fragrance more of a cold brewed coffee than a beer, the coffee is insanely robust here. i love how dry this is when i start drinking it, so many of these rely on some sweet caramel forward malty middle, or worse, a whole heap of lacotse to balance the bitterness and intensity of the coffee, but i like this beer just embracing the coffee, all of it, with no attempt made to soften it at all. the coffee has a lot of nuance, not like an espresso, but with notes of black licorice and burnt wood rising up, as well as a faint anise character in the finish, quality coffee was used here for sure. the specialty dark malts are bold here too, and this is sure to please the lover of the darkest of beers. no trace of its alcohol strength, lots of body making this feel quite expansive, and even a trace of an english yeast or something, giving it some beery depth before it finishes. coffee lingering but not abrasive. awesome beer here, great use of the coffee, i will look for more from these guys!

I don’t hate it. I don’t love it. Super rich, really bold coffee smell and after taste.

12 ounce bottle poured into a large snifter.
Appearance: Dark ebony with a thin, tan head that leaves pleasant lacings when swirled.
Smell: One of the best-smelling beers I've ever had. Dark roast coffee, semisweet chocolate, and a hint of rye bread make for a strong, delicious bouquet. Olfactorily perfect.
Taste: Arabica coffee is in the forefront here, with rich, toasted marshmallow malts, and a decent hop presence as well, providing contrasting bitterness to the rich flavors that dominate. There's a complex, well-balanced flavor here, touching on several notes and coming together quite nicely into an accomplished whole. Splendid.
Mouthfeel: Pleasantly sharp, and somewhat drying – I'd chalk that up to the coffee and the higher ABV.
Overall: This is a wonderful stout. It simply tastes great, offering complexity as well as easy drinkability. Coffee and beer are both great on their own, but they're even better together, and this demonstrates why. Highly recommended.
