12 oz bottle poured into Sam Adams Perfect Pint glass

A: Poured a light copper color with a fingers worth of white head that settled to a small ring with spotty lacing.

S: I'm getting a strong grapefruit and piney smell right up front with a hint of malt mixed.

T: Malt is present right up front but falls very quickly to a strong grapefruit/pine hoppiness. The bitterness kicks in right there and sticks around to the very end.

M: Mid-bodied.... Pretty smooth for the style. Not bad at all.

O: I'm not a big IPA guy but this one is not to bad. Worth looking for.... Nice people at the Old Parkway Brewing... Go check them out if you get to Salem VA.

Very strong pine resin flavor to this one. Sticky and thick. A little too tangy at first, it seems. Unfortunately that stays prevalent throughout the ride. Sticky, yet smooth feel. A decent IPA. Seems a bit tweaked in the wrong direction to me and could use some ironing of the wrinkles. Some filtering might help too.

12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass.

Looks good.

Smells good.

Hello? Maybe I'm missing something, here. This is an IPA?

No balance at all - Malt, malt, malt and LOTS of alcohol.

Couldn't get past the overbearing, boozy kick.

My 2nd drain-pour of 2014.

This beer should be rated higher on here...I dont get it. This is an amazing American IPA that is hoppy with a dry, citric taste. The beer pours a generous head, this beer can be put down! Its comparable to some of the best brews for the style. The only draw back is the beer is very murky, but in the end who cares about the appearance.

Bottom Line: Very, Very good AIPA

A: dirty-yellow tending towards amber, slightly hazy
S: grainy, malty, a little orange-blossom and honey

T: malty front, with sweetness and fruitiness: the net seems to me a bit like peach. There is some citrus in there as well, but it's not prominent. The bitterness in the beer never takes hold to overcome fruity malt beginning.
M: there is a slight pull on the tongue, and decent carbonation. As the bitterness tries to take hold, the fruit-malt notes linger; eventually the bitterness wins out, lingering but not in an overpowering sense.

O: a decent malt-forward IPA, but one that is a little lacking a nice, bitter pull that takes over the back end. I believe it's a solid, nicely done, if unexceptional, offering by a smaller brewery. The offering definitely encourages me to try more from them.
