22 oz. bottle, with handwritten Batch # 59 written on the label. A new DIPA from the local Flesk Brewing Co., with kick ass bottle art drawn by a friend.
Poured into a clear balloon snifter.
A - Pours a deep burnt golden orange colored body. Light chill haze; semi-clear. Some active carbonation visible with about one finger of khaki head. Looks very nice.
S - The smell is fresh, juicy, and tropical. Bright ripe citrus fruits - grapefruit, peaches, mangoes, papaya, orange. Some soapiness / creaminess. Lightly fumey at times. Lots of piney, resinous hops.
T - Taste follows the nose - the typical big DIPA flavors. Bitter grapefruit, orange, rinds, mangoes, papayas, and a strong caramel malt presence to balance things out. It's piney, herbal, and hoppy, but it's actually much more malt forward than I expected. The high 9.40% abv is well-masked.
M - The feel is smooth, creamy, and juicy. Medium-light bodied with good carbonation.
Overall, a decent DIPA from Flesk Brewing Co. Probably their biggest, freshest, and juicest beer that I have experienced so far. In the greater realm of big DIPAs, however, it still lies somewhere within the middle of the pack, and doesn't bring anything new to the table, but it's a solid example of the style.
Flesk Brewing Big Pointy Teeth ---4/5.
