22 oz. bomber, poured into a tulip glass. Murky orange, dull and brownish, doesn't reflect much light. A half inch of foam at first quickly fades after a minute or two. Seems a bit lifeless in the glass.

Hard pressed to pull out any aromas... butterscotch? Gently swirling produces some light clove and some acidity.

Tastes like a muddled IPA from any second rate brewpub... some odd phenolics from the yeast, and some vegetal hops that are poorly defined. No citrus or zesty spices involved, it doesn't have much character to speak of really. Caramel malt, some light bitterness, vague spice. Fairly full bodied without the effervescence to pick it up off the palate. Slick and coating, not in a good way.

If you want a good example (or ten) of a good Belgian IPA, check out Haymarket.
Too bad I had to waste $10 to taste this.

22 oz. bottle, with no apparent bottled on date present. My second official beer review of a beer from Flesk Brewing, out of the neighboring village of Lombard. Grabbed the last bottle from my local beer store. Drinking about as local as I can possibly get besides my friend's homebrew from down the street.

Poured into a clear balloon snifter glass.

A - Pours two fingers of off-white head on top of a bright burnt sienna orange colored body. Looks very nice when held to the light. Some nice scattered webbed lacing on the glass. Second pour yields a darker burnt orange-chestnut brown colored body with some yeast sediment lurking at the bottom of the glass.

S - Aroma is surprisingly subdued. Bit of leafy earthy hops, sweet bready caramel malt, hint of cloves, a bit of soapiness and that's about it. Hint of banana and alcohol phenols. Subtle pineapple creeps out as it warms, but not much.

T - Taste follows the aroma in terms of being tame and subdued. Very light citric fruitiness gets buried beneath the dry caramel malts and yeast. Soapy. Bitter. Bready. Fairly inoffensive and drinkable, but not packing a lot of flavor at all.

M - Feel is sticky, bitter, and dry on the finish. Ideal carbonation, and medium-full bodied.

Overall, I thought it was alright, but it could definitely use some work. Not a lot of banana, pineapple or spice presence, which is what (to me) usually defines the character of a "Belgian style IPA". So according it style, it fares poorly. However, it's a decent, drinkable beer with it's 8.00% abv masked nicely. I look forward to trying the rest from these guys.

A - Poured from a 22oz bottle into a belgian pint (curved) pint glass. Had about a half inch of white head on top of an clear orangish-straw colored body. Lot's of heavy lacing as you drink the beer.

S - The banana and clove, and then some bread with nutmeg or all-spice.

T - Lot's of bread/biscuit with the banana and clove when it hits the tongue, followed by some citrus rind. Really disguises the alcohol.

M - Nice, light mouthfeel, peppery and effervescent on the tongue.

O - I thought this a good Belgian IPA. Worthy effort.
