The Aardwolf Brewing Company has become one of my favorite beer venues to visit with friends in Jacksonville, FL as it expresses a welcoming to all who may enter its tap room in a simple and friendly way. Since my arrival in Jacksonville, FL last Spring, its subtle character has grown on me with every visit and its unadvertised theme about bringing people together with great beer is apparent.
Polished in a light industrial style with bare brick walls and very high ceilings, I find the absence of many distracting tv screens and blazing neon signs to be a welcoming factor where one is not subjected to the latest pummeling in the UFC or the statistical commentary of modern baseball.
Aardwolf stands apart from its competitors with Spartan comforts and no real supporting kitchen, other than the food trucks the sit in the gravel parking lot.
The real story of Aardwolf Brewing Company is served by the glass and the thorough craftsmanship that goes into its brewed products can be tasted. Daring to explore many different styles of beer, Aardwolf is clearly not afraid to articulate its own vision of traditional styles of beer complete with funky names having to do with wolves...For instance, I tasted a very good Weizenbock from the brewery last night known as "Wolf-in-Stein" and a funny Christmas Ale known as "Merry Christmas, You Filthy Animal".
If one is visiting Jacksonville for the first time or the 50th, I highly suggest visiting Aardwolf in the San Marco area for a taste of innovative ales that seemingly bring people together at the brewery.

I was finally able to stop by during my latest visit to Jacksonville. It was close to my hotel, so it worked out great.
I like this space. According to the friendly bar tender, it has gone through numerous incarnations starting out as an ice house (notice the tongs behind the bar), a tile warehouse, etc. There are three rooms, the main bar, an indoor German styled room with picnic tables and then a room with couches and stuff for private parties.
They had a good post work crowd. I think lots of folks were going to the Jacksonville Jags game that night like we were.
They offered 8 or 9 house beers and about the same amount of guest taps. They had a pretty impressive range of styles. I liked everything I had.
I wish they offered food, but food trucks usually show-up. They offer full size and half growlers.
I can really recommend a stop at this friendly gem!

2nd visit: 29nov 2013:
Same place, went because of newspaper writeup said that had a full rack of their own beers now.
A: still old brick building, one assume they are renting. its got a beer hall now. its nice and modern and clean.
BIG BIG pet peeve, no itemized bill.
ok i understand 8% and up in sniffers but the whole beer line up in snifters (except 1 or 2), and pricey as HELL
I get it your in San Macro, wow to expensive for most locals i bet. you better hope all the rich tourist keep coming.
good deals the 2 buck for 4 oz pours. since its really like 6oz its a good deal.
Subject to change:
I had all beer but the IPA and DIPA. after the so called BPA i figure the others are just hop bombs. All the beer was good. Not to much of a headache later.
I see no real reason to come back as the prices are just too much for us.
Still needs serious sound damping badly.
Overall impression, nice clean place. Its a nice old building redone into what it really at this point in time is a bar. The feel of the place is open and airy, but frankly, too modern and bland.
A very sterile feel to the place in front. IMHO they need to break the ceiling up some, the place has all the character of a school cafeteria or tile showroom, lol. It really needs some acoustic design work done....
Good points, Nice long bar. Nice signs of beer list. Very nice clean bathrooms, Great parking lot.
Private room in back. Decent beer list quantity wise and line up wise there was a few things different that it made it interesting.
First impressions: 7/18/2013 3:03pm (1503)
We got there at opening, but there were folks already in the back, while its marked private, they seemed friendly back there. Still I wanted to sit at bar at first to get a feel for the place.
I REALLY like the place allot when it was slow. still Frankly there is nothing to do but drink and talk. Now days sadly so many live on their phones. They had music playing in background. The place was setup for a corporate party.
So is the place awesome? humm. Compared to the rest in town, yes. In some way its better.
Its got lots of room, but its gets NOISY! I did not want to say much negative about it, I want to visit again and drink in the back.
oh heck some negatives, aluminum bar seats are HORRIBLE. ok industrial theme I get it, not comfortable after 1.5 hours...The place is a great grab a beer and wait out the traffic rush, in the front area that is the feel I get. Noisy when it gets crowded.
Still if they get some of their own beer it could be great. The got to do something about the noise level though. Still those they know me know I never overate places.
A: its not cozy
Q: beer was good, still it gave me a headache, that's a bad sign.
S: at the bar and no1 there well it better be great, it got crowded not so much. No worse than any other place in town.
Sel: ok here is where I know your new, but its a brewery not a bar right? or is it a bar?
F: they do not sell food, but like all other you can order in, and this place is located near more place than most.
V: well I think their prices are well a tad pricey. frankly. YMMV

I have visited over 100 breweries and Aardwolf stands out as having one of the most attractive tap rooms with a great atmosphere for enjoying good beer. The brewer is not only very talented but seems to enjoy brewing many different ale styles. Not only will you find great tasting beer but also excellent variety. The staff are all very knowledgeable in beer terminology and styles. They are friendly overall especially as you get to know them. The food trucks that come through are all solid. My biggest knock is the growler fill price which is a lot higher than other breweries this size however this may change as they make more beer and are able to keep up with the early demand for their beer. If you are in Jacksonville and can only visit one brewery, this should be the one you choose.

Best look in a new brewery ever. Beers were good and bar staff friendly and knowledgeable. We stopped on our way through to Cocoa beach. Food truck arrived just in time for a snack. would highly recommend you visit this brewery. Brew master was on site working hard but came out to chat. We meet a great news friend Scott hope to stop by again. Thanks
