Black Shirt has anything for red ales; 6 in the flight and 1 that was experimental with Chai tea. The brewers/partners are very accessible and can tell you whatever you want to know. They have a great story and enjoy sharing it (like ask them how they came across the equipment).

Red ale may seem dull, but when it's done as an English ale, an IPA and a couple saisons...well, you just have to go.

The tables/tops are the flooring out of old Coors trailers. Beer is served out of glasses intended to hold the aroma (though if you have a really big nose you can use the other side).

Park in the lot on the opposite side of the liquor store - it's well marked. We were on a brewery crawl so spaced-out and didn't think to ask about beer to go, so if someone goes in, update the info...and try to get a picture.

Most passionate group of people in Denver doing it. Nearly everything they do is perfectly executed, from the tap room design and construction to the beers. Extremely impressive range of red ales, showing you the spectrum of what a red ale might be. The brewer believes in developing their own style and does not necessarily adhere to BJCP style guidelines. They started with one single recipe for their base red ale and spun off with it from there. BSB covers a rendition of nearly every basic style of beer, the tap list is impressive, and thoughtful. Be on the look out for limited release barrel aged beers, as well as collaboration brews.

I hit BSB on a sunny Denver Saturday afternoon while out on a bike ride. I'd heard nothing but positives about these guys and my visit confirmed that. Although some would question "What's the deal with all of the Reds?," I assure you that each of their brews despite their similar tints, provide a rich and diverse drinking experience. I had the Rye, IPA and Porter and found every sip to be splendid. I liked the Rye so much, I bought one of their growlers to take to a birthday celebration on my next stop and no sooner than saying, "Hey, ya gotta try some of this" it disappeared instantaneously!

A local beer blog says BSB will be canning soon. I say, "Bravo, BSB!"

I've been three times and would have been more often but my main weekend day for beer exploring is Sunday, and they are not open on Sundays. However I've just realized what a quick and easy trip it is up Welton from my office in downtown Denver, for weekday evening after work quaffing...not much longer time-wise than the much closer Renegade...and others must be figuring it out because there were more patrons than on my previous Saturday afternoon visit.

Maybe a 10-12 seat bar, with another 20-25 seats per assorted two, four, and six tops, bar-high. Comfortable vibe. Usually three servers including brewer, on my visits, so your glass will not stay empty long. They make a point of refilling your water glass too, something you don't see at every brewery taproom.

I've had, I think, 5 or six different beers here; the list changes around a bit and there are usually 6 beers on tap.

The "every beer is red" thing does not diminish the selection as much as one might think; I've had pale red pale ales and a quite-dark-with-garnet-highlights-if-you-hold-it-to-the-light porter.

Standouts on the last trip were the sour mash red saison, the pale red rye, and a Red IPA.

These are well made beers, with attention to detail--properly carbonated, and as brilliant as if they had been filtered (Branden the brewer says no, just properly fined and given the time to drop bright)

This is one of the tip-top of the current crop of Denver nanos IMO.

A brewery dedicated to the red (why not Red Shirt?) beer. From what I understand they take the base grain bill and tweak it with each brew. Sounds interesting and I like the idea. Hinders selection a bit, but hey, I'm game.

I'm guessing an old service station location. Two garage doors, with one on the brewing facility side, the other for the guests. Small room has about 8 tables (4 seaters) and a short bar awaits patrons. A bit dark when you first arrive, but you get used to it. There's nothing special or out of the ordinary here, but that doesn't mean it's bad. It's a brewery. They have beer. You buy and drink beer there. Jiggy.

Good service. Glassware is unique to me. Captures aromas but loses head retention. Still, it holds beer. Location is not terrible, but not the best. Right off the bus line. Probably a good first or last stop on a brewery crawls (it was our first).
