Pours with an attractive light tan head, settling over reddish liquid slightly tinged with amber. Lots of toasty/biscuity malt in the nose. Notes of caramel & nuttiness with a heavy mouthfeel in the taste followed by some hoppy dryness after the swallow. Finishes up on the sweet side of bittersweet. Nicely done.

a solid amber from basil t's. pours a crisp amber colour with a soapy off white head, which leaves only hints of stickiness on the glass. the smell and flavour are mainly caramel and malty. there are notes of toasted bread and biscuit throighout as well, along with a touch of sweetness. the finish has a nice hop kick to it. nothing huge, but still nice. this one is crisp and refreshing. if i don't want a heartier brew when visiting basil t's, this is usualy the one you'll find me with. good stuff.

On-tap at The Original Basil T's, Red Bank, NJ
A: The beer is crystal clear amber in color and has a slight amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high light beige head that died down and left a thin layer of bubbles on the surface and down the sides of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of crystal malt extracts are present in the nose.
T: Like the smell, the taste is dominated by flavors of malt extracts and has a slight amount of bitterness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and a bit watery on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is easy to drink but isn't especially flavorful. It might appeal to people that prefer malt extracts over regular malts.

Pours reddish amber with thin head that sticks around for a while.
The smell is of lightly toasted grains and caramel.
The taste is of caramelish sweetness with touches of light toast and earthiness. Finishes rather sweet. Pretty basic, but nice enough.
Light-bodied with a malty smoothness.
An easy-drinking beer with a decent taste. Nothing special, or out-of the ordinary for the style, but not bad at all.

On tap at Basil T's, Red Bank, NJ.
A clear but deep, reddish-amber color, with a thin ring of bubbles around the perimeter; no lacing. Distant aroma of bready malts and not a whole lot else. On the palate, bland, cardboardy malts, mineral, not a hop to be found...this beer was practically flavorless. Light-medium body, watery mouthfeel, fairly drinkable in the sense that it was like drinking a glass of malt-flavored vitamin water. But otherwise, this beer had nothing to offer. Might be good for boiling pasta, but I wouldn't pay for that much.

On tap at the Basil T's Brew Pub.
Poured a medium amber color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas and tastes of mainly caramel with some citrus. Some toasted grains too. Lively body that was a little on the thin side.
Notes from 05/01/05.

The beer pours a nice ruby red color with a thick frothy offwhite head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is good. It has a wonderful malty scent that boasts of pale and caramel malts along with a mild hoppiness as well. It is sweet smelling with a bit of bitterness. The taste is awesome. It has a rich, malty flavor that screams of sweet caramel malts. It goes down easy with a dry bitter hop finish. The mouthfeel is good. It is a medium bodied beer with good carbonation. This is an excellent red ale. It has tremendous flavor and aroma; a good drinker.

Decent enough amber ale. It's hard to get excited over this style but this is a solid offering. Amber reddish with slightly sweet, grainy aroma. The caramel malt and crystal hop profile work well together. Nice intro to craft brew. Enjoyed at the Toms River brewpub.

This beer has a nice floral aroma, and pours a clear amber/golden color.
It has a toasty bitterness that is very similar to their Pale Ale (same hops?). I think the bitterness detracts a little from the underlying malt bill, making it slightly unbalanced for a Red.
I don't know if I would pay the 5.75 again for this one--I would save it for their dry stout.

growler brought back from the brewpub tonight.
A - Deep clear reddish color with some orange hues. Bubbly head dissipates into some filmy lacing after pouring.
S - Notes of sweet malts, roasted grain, and a little bread.
T - Breadiness and grain up front, as the malt slowly starts to take control. A few touches of caramel and sweetness blends in before a clean finish.
M/D - Lighter body with a somewhat dry feel which goes down pretty smooth.
This is an alright red ale, but I think some of the other Basil T's beers are a little better. Either way, I enjoy supporting the local spots in NJ.

This was on-tap at The Original Basil T's in Red Bank on 4/19/2008. They served it to me in a standard pint glass.
This Basil T' brew poured a really nice dark amber with a few ruby red highlights alond the edge. It had a 1/2 inch head of white foam that had really good retention that left behind a small white film and white streaks and spots of lace around the glass. It had a really nice appearance, but after that, it quickly went down the hill. The aroma was too faint and featured sour malts, yeast, and candied hops. For some reason it smelled like the hops had a sugar coating. The taste was lightly sour and sugary with toasted malts, yeast, and bitter hops. There was nothing to the taste. At least the malts weren't sour, but the taste still had some sour characteristics to it. The mouthfeel was light with a sugary aftertaste of toasted malts and bitter hops. Clearly this beer needs work or they need to clean their tap lines. The beer didn't nearly have enough flavor to it and it was far too sugary. I shouldn't have to make an emergency visit to a dentist after a drink a beer. I wouldn't touch this beer again and I should have been paid to drink it in the first place. I should end this review in a positive note. At least the appearance was really nice!

The brew poured a nice red garnet color with a creamy off-white head that slowly fades and leaves nice lace-work on the sides of the glass as the beer is consumed. The aroma is complex and pleasing, malty - mainly pale and caramel malts along with a mild floral hoppiness. The taste is refreshing and satisfying. It has a rich, malty flavor that has biscuity notes some sweet caramel and a balancing dose of hops that begins on the back of the tongue and lingers to coalesce into a fairly dry-bitter hop finish. The mouthfeel is light and airy with some lingereing carbonation. This is an excellent beer.
