The Saucony Sessions is a hoppy pale ale brewed with Cascade and Centennial Hops. Post fermentation the ale is filtered over fresh grapefruit. The combination of hops and citrus flavors from the grapefruit makes for a brilliantly refreshing pale ale that is very sessionable at only 4% ABV. We package The Saucony Sessions in 12oz cans to make for easy beaching, boating, hiking, biking, camping, lawn mowing, trampolining, recycling…. anywhere you prefer not to have glass.

Saucony Creek Brewing Company "Sessions IPA"
On tap at Fountain Porter, Philadelphia on 11/08/2013, $3.50 during Happy Hour

Interesting beer. I don't think it can really be called an IPA at 4.5% abv, but it's also not the first "session IPA" that I've tasted so let's dispense with whatever style issues that might exist and just get on with it...

A friend of mine ordered a more expensive, standard IPA that was supposedly very hoppy - his beer did have a better aroma, but when tasted side-by-side the Saucony Creek Sessions IPA tasted every bit as hoppy; and was surprisingly just about equally balanced. Hmmm... ? What to say about that? It looked good, it smelled good, and it didn't really have any flaws to it. And let me get this out of the way as well, it had more malt character than some standard IPA's on the market. So I guess it just goes to show that it's how you put a beer together and the quality of the ingredients that really makes the difference. It was loaded with hop flavor, relying mainly on Cascade citrus, but also backed by a bit of citrusy-floral character and some very soft pine. The alcohol obviously didn't show, and it was really nicely balanced between malt and bitterness, although heavily topped with hop flavor.

Overall, you could drink a few of these before the hops dismantled your taste buds, and you'd probably still be fairly sober at that point - remember, Budweiser is 5.0% and this is just 4.5%. I was impressed, and if Saucony Creek can make all of their beers this well they should do just fine in the increasingly tough craft-brew market.

Great hops for an IPA with no bitterness. However, the beer is good but not memorable. Love the can it came in.

Tasted OK -- had this the Friday after Thanksgiving from a can at World of Beer in Arlington, VA. Like many session IPAs, it has a thin hop profile that is the price of low ABV. Nothing special about this really.
